I've been warming up for this mornings game, by watching game 4 of the SC Final in 1977, Boston - Montreal, the Habs won 2-1 in OT and Jacques Lemaire scored both Hab goals and they won the SC. Right now I'm watching game 7 of the 1979 semi - final between Boston - Montreal of course this was the "too many men on the ice" game, where Don Cherry lost his cool. In the resulting PP Lemaire drops a pass to Lafleur who blasts the puck past Gilles Gilbert to send the game to OT. It was before the 1977 game Don Cherry said Guy Lafleur was the best hockey player in the world, Bobby Orr had retired and he was the best before Lafleur, and Beliveau was before Orr, IMHO.
Setting the stage for Mario Tremblay to set up Yvon Lambert for the winner. The Habs went on to win their 4th SC in a row after vanquishing the tough Boston Bruins in a hard fought series.
I should be in top fan form by gametime, ready to watch my man Plekanec playing the same way Lemaire always did, leaders by example and the defensive conscience on their lines. Scoring timely goals, while keeping the opponents top offensive line in check, always the type of player that I've admired on the Habs.
Beliveau being my favorite player All -Time, the consummate team player and Captain, just a great person and ambassador for the NHL and Hockey. He was a pleasure to watch play, a true gentleman and a great representative for the Habs too this day. For him I wish the Habs win the Stanley Cup once again and he could earn his 18th Stanley Cup ring.
The Habs need to keep playing one shift at a time, with their best effort and they should win, that's all anyone can ask for, and Good Luck today Habs. Three Cheers for the Habs,
Go Habs Go!!!!!!!...........
