Value of: Adam Larsson

In a vacuum? Maybe a late 1st and a B level prospect, at best. Most definitely not a Taylor Hall level talent.

Show us your posts when Larsson was with the Devils and you were willing to let him go for this crap.

I offered RNH straight up for him and you laughed me off the thread.

So we all knew that Chia was "over a barrel" when it came to acquiring a young D-man with potential and in the end he had to overpay.

That being said, if your team needed a young D-man and had traded for Larsson, what would have been an acceptable price for your team to pay?

So games are won by Gf and Ga.
The leading even and pk ga d in the 05-06 + era.
Pronger
Lidstrom
Weber
Chara
Hjarlmasson
Doughty
And last 2 years
#1 adam larsson.

So you are asking what the #1 ev and pk ga d is worth.

Wonder what the # 1 evp/60 forward mcdavid is worth?

Larsson and mcdavid are the best at forward driven GF and defence driven GA.

I am ok with hall not the #1 driver of gf for the # 1 driver of ga.

Now PLease tell me how important the top 15 off d who score below league average GF are worth so much.

They score at a teams # 10 fwd rate.

The Opinions on here are special.

Opinion; definition: Point of view not based on facts or knowledge.

I prefer the facts when rating a trade.

You've got to imagine another solid young D was available for less than the price paid?

You would think. But Chia really screwed up big time. He had all those assets to use as chips and gave up one of his best for a 3-4 defenseman. Shero is still pinching himself. But Chia blinked and that was that. I feel he should have tried to move Yak or Eberle or RNH instead of Hall. He could have gotten a better return. I feel Larsson had the chance to be a stud at the draft, but after watching him for years then hearing Adam Oates talk about him on Hockey Central @ Noon about his lack of confidence and lack of offence, I think he ceiling is a 3 and no better. The main reason I am pissed off is now my team has to deal with him in the Met division. It would be nice to tell Ray to wake up it is all a dream but we know better. Adios.

The value is set? Taylor Hall.

Value is whatever someone else will pay. PC said Taylor Hall.

That's something that bothers 99% of humans.

The true meaning of value is whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

When I was a teen I'd never shovel out $20 for a CD. New CDs were always cheaper, $12-$14... so I always bought new crap. Although to me 20 dollars for an album that was over a year old seemed Pejorative Sluredly expensive, obviously people were paying that price otherwise the price would have been cheaper and therefore that's the value of the older CD.

And then there's Bitcoin.

While I doubt he is a locker room cancer there is question marks about him in dressing room no doubt as far as attitude is concerned

I think the questions are valid. By no means would I suggest he's a problem in the way a guy like Evander Kane is, but I think we've seen a few details that suggest he wasn't a positive locker room presence.

- Eric Belanger's recent Twitter war with Edmonton fans, where he tries to explain why things didn't work out in Edmonton - the way they ran things, the way the veterans were treated, the kids got to do what they want.

- Andrew Ference, after a few months with the team comments that he's never seen such a divided dressing room, a lot of cliques.

- The following season Ference sounds off about some players bringing too much negativity to the rink, that those players should be happy they're in the NHL and enjoy the experience. The following day Hall tweets "Beautiful day in Winnipeg, just happy to be in the NHL." A comment dripping with sarcasm towards Ference.

- Last year both McLellan, and then later Hendricks, sound off about guys not getting the message when it comes to lessons in practices transitioning into actual games. Both guys use the example of raising small children "they hear you, but are they actually listening?"

The only one that definitively points at Hall is the 2nd Ference comment and reply by Hall. I'm not making him out to be a monster, but he does seem to rub some people the wrong way. Maybe that changes walking into a dressing room where he's the knew guy and has to earn the respect of new teammates, but it doesn't seem as though he became much of a locker room leader in his 6 years here.

They are pretty similar defencemen, except Larsson has higher upside, is signed longer, is bigger, stronger and plays more physical, and had the better season last year. In what world is Tanev's value "considerably" higher? There isn't a team in the league that would take Tanev over Larsson.

Tanev is much, much better at playing defense, so...

to be fair i like larsson alot... would love to have him on my team.

but i like hall more.

if i can only have 1 of these 2 i take hall.

i go back into history and look at trades like chris chelious for dennis savard and chris pronger for brenden shanahan.

i feel hall can be compared to savard or shanahan. i dont feel larsson is comparable to pronger or chelious.

this isnt to say that larsson wasnt worth a great return... i just feel hall was under valued.

both very good young players whose future will be even better but i feel many gms will regret not making better offers for hall

This is an interesting comment, because the majority of the posts in the Hall for Larsson thread were "Oilers got owned; can't believe they gave him away; horrible trade by Chia," yet I don't ever recall seeing someone post "my team would have beat that offer by giving you _________." For someone constantly referred to as a "top 3-5 LW in the game" (something I don't really agree with), there sure doesn't seem to be any suggestions of better trade options.

I probably would have traded Toffoli for Larsson, and Toffoli is the most valuable piece on the Kings roster (outside of Doughty, who is as untouchable as McDavid). The Kings need a #2 defender to take the pressure off of Doughty, and the Kings are built to win with a stellar defense, which they currently do not have.

I would have turned that down from the Devils' perspective. Larsson is a good player, despite what many people (who don't watch him play, I might add) on this board say.

How many of these defenseman were available for Hall straight up?

No one wants that melted butter dman near their 1st pairing. He's Brian Campbell soft

Yeah. Great skater, play reader, shot blocker, eats 22 minutes a night, stifles top lines, doesn't take stupid penalties because he's rarely out of position.

But low PIM, so obviously butter soft. :handclap:

These defensemen would have been available if their GM wanted Hall. The difference being is would you trade Hall for any of the bolded? Lindholm maybe but the Ducks cant afford another high priced winger.

Larsson is one of the few young #1s that was willing to be moved for Hall. We werent going to move him for some guy in this late 20s or worse. If we want one of those we can sign a 28 year old UFA forward ..............oh wait.

The other thing is most of the names on that list I'd want to trade Hall for play in the western conference. Dealing him out east had to be a factor.

I don't view Larsson as a young #1... He's a #3 that has the potential to be a #2: he & Ben Hutton have similar value imo.

Adam Oates, his former coach, feels that he's a top-4 D w/ the upside of a #2... Oates clearly says he doesn't feel that Larsson can be a #1 at 3:23 of the interview.

Yeah. Cerebral, great skater, play reader, shot blocker, puck mover, eats 22 minutes a night, stifles top lines, doesn't take stupid penalties because he's rarely out of position.

I never mentioned PIM. It's actually insulting to butter comparing it to Tanev. He doesn't play a physical at all. He only hits when he's not looking and runs into a player once every 3-4 games

Come on now.
And before you ask, yes I know who Hutton is.
All the Canucks defenseman are top 4 defenseman and forwards are selke calibre defenseman. I wonder how such a great defense was 29th in SA/G?

Alex Edler & Chris Tanev missed 43 games combined.
Dan Hamhuis missed 24 games.

Matt Bartkowski played 80 games, Alex Biega played 50 games, and Yannick Weber played 45 games when they all should've been depth d-men at best nowhere near that many games played.

It's also fair to say that opposing teams could focus on offense due to the lack of secondary scoring past the Sedin line; so there's that too. Too much of a burden on an already depleted blue line.
