On what planet? Who even has $3M in cap space. To get a 1st back you’d need to take back a bad contract back.

Remember when Henrique signed his contract and you went on at length about what a horrible deal it was, guaranteed to be a terrible contract? Yet here we are down to the last year plus and discussing how much the Ducks could move him for. Maybe you should just accept that you don't have a very good handle on this player's value.

Makes a ton of sense for the Devils to get involved.

Johnsson would likely have to go back to make the cap work. 3.4 million cap hit but only 800k salary after his summer bonus. Don’t see that being too much of an issue. That or Bernier’s contract, but I gave up on trying to understand LTIR a while ago, so not sure if that’ll help.

Prospect wise, Nolan Foote, Graeme Clarke, and Reilly Walsh would be the most expendable. I can’t see them willing to dip into the tier above that for Henrique. Maybe the Devils would be willing to deal Zetterlund or make a decision on Bahl/Okhoituk and deal the other.

I really don’t think the Devils want to be dealing their first this year, but I think it’s possible they would do a conditional 1st dependent on the Devils making the conference finals especially if they can get Henrique retained to a reasonable AAV for next year.
Clarke is having a real good year and Foote has looked good especially his board play and in front of net...No way is OKY being traded they need what he brings.....If Haula doesn't come back next year maybe consider him then.....

You have to give to get. I don’t think the Devils want to be dipping into the Muk, Vilen, Casey, Gritsyuk group so Foote, Clarke, Thompson, Walsh are the likely candidates.

There’s also some prospects like Salminen, Hauser, Filmon, Edwards, etc. that I suppose could be valuable enough for a trade too, but it’s more than likely Anaheim wants some more immediate impact guys.

At some point, the Devils are going to have too many prospects and not enough spots to play them. Have to find a way to capitalize on their value and take a risk dealing some of them.

Personally id do

2nd + Foote for Henrique at 50%
or
1st for Henrique at 50%

Granted idk that the devils are the type of team that might value henrique at 50%.... as i feel like this year kinda feels like an overachieving year not a go all in year.

Good points, while i do think henrique is a good fit(and not a rental so you get 2 kicks with him at a reduced cost)... just kinda depends how far off new jersey thinks they are.

Fitzgerald has said he’s opposed to rentals, but he’s also in a bit of a bind where he should definitely add to reward this group for their year, even if they haven’t proven anything yet in the playoffs. Henrique might be the perfect balance, not to mention an incredibly popular player with the fan base too.

I would only do Henrique for a conditional first on if the Devils make the CF this year. I would say that goes for any deal. I don’t hate Foote and a 2nd but it is a bit pricey.

Johnsson also likely goes for cap purposes (800k salary but 3.4 million cap hit). I don’t think the Devils need a 50% retention nor would they want to pay for it. Whatever gets Henrique to 4 million AAV seems like a good price for him.

Oh ya i figured in any deal w/ Devils Johnsson would be coming back to facilitate trade.

I actually do like the fit for the devils(but i also imagine teams like toronto/boston/tampa/avs may really value a henrique for 2 years at 50% more than the devils would at this stage).... at the end of the day hes a good vet player, potentially on a reduced contract, and very versatile. Hes also not that young anymore, and while effective... may want a chance to play with a contender and try for a cup.

Good locker room guy/leader, has no problem moving up and down the top 9, or playing any of the 3 forward positions... and also does good work on PK and PP. Also not a bad faceoff guy. I wont lie tho it would be cool to see him back in a devil uniform... hell maybe he can even have a series clinching OT goal again .

The retention on henrique is prob more valuable to devils next year rather than this year... gives you a good middle 6 forward at a good deal, and leaves spending money to find other upgrades.

There is no reason to move Rico if they cannot get at least a 1st round pick. Anything less than that, it's more valuable to keep him for the kids. He's been a big factor with McTavish who is pacing for around 50 points. On this Ducks team, that is fantastic for a 19 yo rookie. Rather keep Rico, so he can help Mac develop, produce, and gain confidence. That to me is more important than getting a 2nd round pick or B prospect.

If a TDL trade for Henrique were to happen, what's everyones' opinion on whether the trade should happen early (when there are more 1sts available - if teams are willing to trade them) or was later as some teams plan B? Or does it not matter?

I think you hit the nail on the head in terms of Anaheim wanting more immediate help. The Ducks have a ton of prospect depth and plenty of picks, surely will be adding to that number as well. They could really use some young NHL ready players to help bridge from the present to the future.

The Ducks badly need more physicality/heart, something to make them more difficult play against. Not sure if he'd even be available, because I see he's getting a fair bit of NHL action already, but Nikita Okhotiuk seems like the type of young player the Ducks should be enquiring about.

Personally i think earlier would be best, but prob depends on the team

He can def help a team that finds themselves in a wild card spot, or lower playoff seed potentially move up a bit.

I think if teams like Oilers/Toronto/Colorado/Pitt/Oilers were interested in henrique... they would benefit more making that move ASAP

A team like Bos/Tampa etc would prob see him as a plan b move, or a last second move after seeing what the teams chasing them do

My guess/expectation is that Colorado is considering multiple options but the'yre keeping tabs on cost relative to value on each. Based on the Lehkonen trade last year and based on this current cap, it's very possible they might value reasonable contracts with term.

If I'm not mistaken, last year the Avs waited for other dominos to fall. I believe the Chiarot trade occurred before the Manson trade and I think the Hagel/Paul trades occurred before the Lehkonen trade. Perhaps coincidence or maybe the Avs waited for other suitors to remove themselves from guys they were targeting?

I think a lot of teams that think their window is a few seasons prob value contracts w/ term that they can get multiple playoff runs with.... specially if you an get them at a good price point cap wise.

Realistically for the Devils, it’s probably either Bahl or Okhotiuk moving forward with the soon to be influx of Hughes, Vilen, and Mukhmadullin on top of Nemec already in the AHL. So they have to make a decision at some point, I’m not sure if they’re ready to do that just yet though. Maybe a potential deal expedites that.

Foote and Walsh are probably the two to most likely get moved and close to ready. I thought it was a bit interesting Foote was the one brought on the Cali road trip when Clarke was arguably more impressive in Utica. Seems like some definitely showcasing for Anaheim/San Jose.

Less likely, but there’s also a chance Devils may be willing to include Boqvist or Zetterlund. Probably further down the preference list though.

The Ducks will eventually run into a similar situation with their impressive group of young D prospects (Mintyukov, Zellweger, Hinds, Thrun, Lacombe, Luneau, Warren, Moore to name a few) but none of them have seen the NHL yet and will need varying amounts of time. For this year and next, there would be the most wide open opportunity you can find at the NHL level, for a physical young D to prove worthy of regular duty.

That's my point let us make the dance b4 doing these moves and giving up on guys early....Plus Haula is here this year maybe next year but imo Henrique is not worth a first or top prospect....Doesn't mean he isn't you could be right....We just aren't ready yet and Clarke and Foote should get real opportunity here b4 they are dealt to help us get a bigger piece or just allow us to deal a higher priced player or rfa....

How old is he? It's funny you say that because I feel the same way about Erik Johnson. ;)

The first round pick of any contender trading for Henrique would be a low first round pick. People in this thread seem to be overvaluing low first round picks.. Right now Toronto/NJ/SEA are drafting 27-28-29. Colorado is 17 which is a better pick, but they'll probably finish strong and end up lower.

Bottom line, a lower first rounder for 1.5 years of Henrique should be a no brainer for a team in its cup window that will have him for 2 playoff runs. Particularly if the ducks are retaining and/or taking back salary.

What's your point? Does it need to be said that playoff focused teams are who will be interested? Do you think tanking teams would be looking to add a 32 year old forward? It kind of goes without saying.

But the thing is, are people over valuing their first or are you not understanding the motivation behind the interest in Henrique?

As per our discussions in the Leafs forum, I'd do Leafs 1st, Minten + Kerfoot (for cap purposes) for Henrique @ 50% + Comtois.

My point is that; (i) the only teams that should be interested in Henrique are cup contending teams with low first round picks; (ii) as such, higher first round picks from non-contenders are not relevant in this discussion and should be ignored; and (iii) some people here are overvaluing those low first round picks, which are the only ones that are relevant to this thread.

he isn’t a player you give up a 1st for….evrn st 50%.

on a good team he isn’t a top 6 or evrn top 9 player.

then that extra year in this tight cap world scare off teams even more.

Why is Anaheim taking a second and Foote? Anaheim has plenty of money to sign someone similar. Anaheim doesn’t need that second and Foote handicap. And then also asking us to retain? Wow….

First and he’s theirs at 50% retention. That’s what the starting conversation should be imo.

Not trying to criticize, but Anaheim has no interest in Foote just for a simple second. Henrique can goto another team.

Exactly, that’s why I was offering Drysdale up since the prices are so high for defenseman.

One player can get you a boatload right now. I’m not the only one seeing a logjam here. In two years someone has to be moved.

It makes no sense to start clearing a potential log jam by moving a 21 year old who happens to be the only one of the bunch who has played in the NHL.

Drysdale only gets moved if there happens to be an opportunity to acquire a young star player. He's not someone who would be actively shopped around and it's really dumb to double down on thinking otherwise. Spamming crap like this is part of why your last five accounts were banned.
