Jets were the first team I was thinking of. If Risto is on their 3rd pair they should have a solid d for the playoffs. I wonder what they would offer for a rebuilding Flyers team.
A Risto trade is a hard one to figure out. There have been rumors going back years of Chevy being interested in him and Chevy has been shown to be a GM that will circle back on guys he's targeted in the past. There was quite a bit of scouting happening between the Jets and Flyers last year.

The Jets have been trying for year to get Logan Stanley to play a game similar to the way Risto plays and it just doesn't seem like it's happening so they clearly see a need for that type of a player. Is he decent on the PK?

The problem I see is that even with major retention he's still overpaid and a lot of teams are going to struggle to to fit him in for 2 additional years. Even if PHI holds 50% what does a 3rd pair D even an established one go for? 2nd and a 4th? Or maybe a 2nd and a B prospect or fringe NHLer? At that price is it worth it for PHI to retain that much? If the don't do full retention then what is he worth a 3rd?

I can absolutely see the Jets being very open to something like a 2nd in 26 + Dmitri Rashevsky for Risto at 25%. But for that price if that's truely the best PHI can do are they better off just keeping him. They can always trade him in the last year of his deal and probably get a 3rd or a 4th at that point.

Lol Canucks would like to repurpose or move Hronek, really hasn't been as good as we'd hoped since he signed that deal. Hope Stevie Y didn't sucker us into buying a guy who's only good in contract years...

This is a minuscule minority opinion amongst Canucks fans ftr. Like less than 5% of us think this. Homie speaks for himself only.

Pettersson, Provorov and Andersson are the best names I’ve seen potentially available and it’s not certain they are moved.

I think they could all get a big return.

Be that as it may, I'm not sure many other fans saw him as someone who would only be on pace for 30 points over a full season after we opened the bank to pay him. I get that we don't really have better #1 RD options but would still like to see more from him, even if it is just my $0.02.

The big issue is there are a lot of top 4 D men available based on how much they have played over their career and recently, but a lot of people on here consider them fringe NHLers. Its almost a given that when someone wants a top 4 D on HFBoards, they usually mean a D that is top 2 in minutes on any given team, and sometimes thats not good enough. So many fans seem to think a top 4 D man needs to be a 30 point player, whereas if you look at the stats, there are sub 30 point D men that were in the top 64, i.e. top pairing numbers .....

Just look at last year. If you went strictly by points, 17 points puts you within the number for top 4 dmen around the league (32*4, 128th).

So when you say "top 4 dmen", get ready for a lot of players no one wants to consider top 4 dmen, but in reality are. And especially on the right hand side.

I agree with what you are saying. I know the Flyers retained a big piece of Kevin Hayes’ contract and I am pretty sure they may have retained on one other contract.
I think Risto can be a solid 2nd pairing and PK on a good team. He has been playing top pair on the Flyers which doesn’t mean much but if he is on a team’s third pair then they have to have a really good d. Since Torts took over Risto doesn’t resemble the guy from Buffalo.
I have to imagine if the Flyers have to eat more than 25% that they will hold on unless they get a first.

Y’all got a d-man who was drafted a year after Celebrini was born.
Yes and Bogosian is a pretty ideal #6 that isn't on the market and was traded for a 7th rounder previously. Ferraro is quite likely the worst D man in the NHL this year from what I have seen, I do not see there being any kind of demand for his services in the NHL.

Sounds like someone who relies too much on the voices here to form an independent opinion. That’s ok. We’re all guilty of that. I won’t even pretend to know how the bottom pairing guys are doing on other teams outside of the one or two games I watch.

My opinion of Ferraro is based on the games I have watched of him where he has been completely abysmal. You did make me take a look at his advanced stats in case I had a really bad sample, but they only confirm that he is horrendous.

Well, even if we assume that he is abysmal and no team will want him, the Sharks are perfectly fine keeping him until next season when they have more flexibility to do something with him. The Sharks will be looking to move Cody Ceci and Jan Rutta as expiring contracts on defense. And if someone shows interest in Ferraro and is willing to pay their price w/o retention then they'll move him but that would also put guys like Jake Walman and Timothy Liljegren in the same sort of boat. The only benefit moving Ferraro does for us now is to make a spot for someone like Shakir Mukhamadullin and/or Luca Cagnoni but there's no rush there.

Do you trust this site?
Broadly yes, its NaturalStattrick data and Dom L's Model, not perfect, but pretty good and he goes into pretty heavy detail on how the data is applied. I think he is too friendly for offense after he made some adjustments last season, but that wouldn't be a factor for this kind of player.

Ferraro is the 5th worst NHL player on a per game basis, and worst net overall impact based on his minutes played per this model.

Okay, thanks, no I didn't mean Ferraro and I'm not a San Jose fan. What confused me was that I asked an Islanders fan today how Dobson looked defensively and he said he was bad, but this site shows he was decent defensively. That's why I was confused.

I don't watch the Islanders at all, so couldn't tell you, but this model has aligned with my team and the Central division very solidly over the past couple seasons. A Defense rating over 2 is pretty solid, of note, the defensive rating incorporates puck recoveries and successful exits pretty significantly, so it may be that Dobson is strong in some aspects but weaker in others.
