Since 2000, looking at 82 game seasons, there have been:
0 - 100 point defensemen
0 - 90 point defensemen
3 - 80 point defensemen (Burns, Karlsson, Lidstrom)
16 - 70 point defensemen (Burns-2x, Karlsson-3x, Lidstrom-2x, Carlson-2x, Green-2x, Leetch, Hedmen, Rielly, Zubov, Giordano)

Fox in his past 82 games, spread over 3 seasons:
82 games
11 goals
63 assists
74 points
+/- +30
Team Record: 43-30-9

Edit: Out of curiosity I checked Makar's past 82 regular season games.
82 games
14 goals
60 assists
74 points
+/- +12
Team Record: 54-21-7

Given all the oohs and aahs over Makar's offensive game, plus significantly more o-zone starts, on a better team, I expected him to have more points than Fox.

In any case, I love this current crop of young D in the league.

*I'll edit and credit the poster of the quote above if anyone knows who.

I can certainly see him approaching 90 points once or twice in his career when some of the youngins start producing. Crazy that it still seems like there's even more upside left there

He has 16 points in 15 games. That's an 87 point pace, and as a team, our offense is trending upward after a slow start. I don't think it's crazy to believe that he could do it this year.

Will he keep up that pace? No idea. But if he stays healthy, I wouldn't be at all surprised.

Who's complaining? I haven't seen any.

There were complaints at the time of the trade, because "asset management" and Fox was going to sign with us anyway as a free agent after college. I don't think you'll find anyone now who is upset by that trade.
No ones gonna say they disagree with it, but some still say they agree with their thinking at the time, that we should have held off and gotten him for free.

My feelings are if NYI or NJD and Philly traded for his rights, and he was pretty close to home/at home anyway near his family and liked the facilities, environment and red carpet rollout for him, maybe NYR don't get that 'free' chance to sign him as a FA?

We have a guy who won a Norris and there’s complaints that we gave up 2 2nds for him?

it’s b/c it was known Fox wanted to come to NY. I think the Rangers did the ethical thing more than the selfish thing.

he was going to sign with us regardless. if he waited another season he would’ve been a FA and could do as he pleased.

I'd accept Roman Josi as an argument. That's it though.

One, Josi has had almost a full decade longer to reach this level. All things relative, Fox smokes him like a bag of shake. Two, Josi was born in Bern, Switzerland, which might as well be a fictional place where Bernmeister governs and Boo Nieves is captain of the national team and they send you to jail for synergy crimes, so I’m not even positive I’m going to choose to believe Roman Josi is real, let alone that he’s a threat to Adam Fox.

I won't call him out by name but there's one person who is still dying on that hill. I don't remember if it was in this thread or another.

Edit: Never mind he called himself out. He's usually a good poster but this take may be the oddest take not by bernmeister I've seen on HF.

Even if it's 100% guarantee that he would have signed with us. Starting his career a season early was worth two 2nd round picks. This is an absolutely ridiculous hill you're dying on. You can admit you were wrong.

We can't even get our first rounders to perform to expectations and someone is worrying about second round picks for one of the best players in the game?

Watching that goal again, that was a Jeter-esque type play from Fox. It's like he knows we are going to win possession and quickly gets into position to accept the pass.

it may have been known that he wanted to come to NY but if you think Fox is going to be a great player you don't play games or leave it up to chance.
How pissed would you all be if the Rangers tried to wait until he went FA and instead he signed somewhere else and was playing like this?

It's a small price to pay. Don't play silly games.
