Is there any reason Hedman deserves it over Fox to this point aside from reputation? He's been pretty poor lately (-9 in the last 8 games). Wouldn't be surprised if Fox's main competition ends up being someone else altogether (like Letang or Makar) by the time the season comes to an end.

At this point, if Hedman does win it, it'd be purely based on reputation and him going #2 overall, while Fox was a 3rd round pick and hasn't played like this for long.

He should be tied with Hedman at 38.

Kravtsov definitely tipped Buchnevich's pass to Zibanejad.

I looked at the replay several times and I think the devils player is the one who knocks the puck back to Mika , he didn’t have control so didn’t negate Buch and Fox’s assists or it would have been an unassisted goal by Mika.

Its also the team. Tampa is the SC defending champions and they are bound for another deep run, so he is on a bigger stage and is a bigger name player.

If the Rangers make the playoffs and Fox keeps this point production up and play he should get and will be robbed if he doesn’t.

There was an angle shown during the broadcast yesterday that showed that he 100% touched it.

Mika acknowledged it too after he scored.

But its the NJD scorers. Im surprised they handed out 2 assists and got the goal scorer right..

Fox being 23 and being better than Victor F*cking Hedman has got to win him Norris if he keeps shredding on the scoresheet and being astonishing defensively.

Hedman is one of the few defenseman I don’t have a problem with a Norris win, as he’s not just a fourth forward. He puts up points but is stifling defensively.
Fox is fantastic especially for someone his age and size, but if it’s close I wouldn’t be upset if hedman won it.

I doubt Fox will win the Norris if the Rangers don't go on a run/Hedman keeps the numbers close. No defenseman has ever won the Norris without his team making the playoffs (Excluding Josi last year whose team technically wasn't in a playoff spot on points at the pause but was on points %).

Of course, but Fox has really made that case strong.

Fox had a pretty average game by his standards, ended up with 2 even points and +3. Scrub ass Hedman was a -3 against Nashville and padded his stats with a PP assist. Funny enough Savard was a -4 in his debut

i'd be pretty upset since it would reinforce what we already know, that the Norris is a reputation / lifetime achievement award

I will. I’ve had a problem with the Norris trophy for years, and there’s no argument that Fox hasn’t been the best defenseman in the NHL this year. I understand that he doesn’t have the same reputation as Hedman, and I understand that the Rangers not making the playoffs are going to screw up voting, but that’s the whole issue right there.

I think if Hedman wins it this year there will be substantial backlash due to social media and the growing availability of defense metrics.

I agree, and I don't think it's solely a problem of the Norris. The Vezina, and to a lesser extent, the Hart suffer from the same subjectivity.

There is no way to perfectly quantify the performance of players, but when EVERY metric, both classic and advanced, point to one guy... I mean, that he isn't considered the favourite really highlights that there are problems with how the current voting process functions.

I always get annoyed when I watch cooking competition shows...which I do a lot...and in the final round the judges decide just to not look at the dish for the final round but also every other round beforehand. Your dessert should not win on the strength of your appetizer, if that makes sense.

I don't understand why a team has to make the playoffs in order to win the Norris. This isn't an MVP award. Fox has been the best defensemen this year and the Rangers most important player along with Panarin. If he loses it because of Hedman's reputation or Rangers not making playoffs I would be pissed.
