To be fair, I don't think Jarmo and most of the FO(which aren't from Ohio) give two shits about OSU or football. So to them it's actually a benefit to the team that Michigan is so close and they can watch those kids so much.

The better Michigan is, the sweeter the wins over them. I’ve been an OSU fan for almost 70 years ( wow, can that be possible? Damn!) and I always root for Big Ten teams to win over outsiders. The Big Two Little Eight days are well past. The whole “can’t say Michigan” shit goes back to Woody, about whom I have decidedly mixed feelings! In any case, I’m delighted with the Wolverines now joining the CBJ!

I am not comfortable throwing him on line 1 immediately. Not even dubois did that.

If he plays center, third line is a good starting spot. Especially next to a guy like Texier who is easy to play with.

Did you happen to see who just won the Calder? And where he played pretty much all season in the lineup?

I don’t think anyone is throwing him into 1C role

Indeed I did. That doesn’t change my opinion.

If Fantilli earns it throughout the season? Fine, cool. But starting? No.
I'm not necessarily saying he's going to start as the 1C, but when asked if Fantilli would play with Johnny or Laine Jarmo starts by saying it's up to the coach ultimately, and that it's important for the coach and GM to be on the same page, but it's obvious he's not a 4th liner or going to be playing on the grinding line, but that he's always played on the top line and always played with the best talents on the teams he's been on.

I'm not going to be the least bit surprised if he's in the top 6 from day 1.

Round the 8 min mark.

I know some people prefer to see Fantilli start on the 3rd line (or even Cleveland), and maybe that’s where his camp performance says that’s where he should. But Fantilli is considered a better prospect than Beniers, a rookie who played top line on an excellent Kracken team. I have no problem if Fantilli is 1C or 2C early on unless his play shows he’s overwhelmed.

I also have no problem if the other top two center is NOT Boone. He’s certainly competent, but I see this year as a development year - one that produces a much better record - with 2024-25 the year we are a serious playoff contender. But I am hoping that other top center is a current roster player.

(Of course goaltending is a whole other wild card worthy of its own post).

I just want to put him with whatever wingers we think he'll click with. Could be Gaudreau, could be Texier. Heck maybe both.

Are you worried about the quality of the competition?

Indeed I did. That doesn’t change my opinion.

Is there really much downside to trying it and moving him later if it doesn't work? This player just seems innately driven, I'm not worried about him becoming entitled.

I personally would run my four centers to start the year KJ, Laine, Fantilli, and Voronkov. Find out what you have as far as center ability. We seem to know far too little about what we have.

I say Gaudreau should be stabled to him next season.

Confidence is everything for young players& with Gaudreau you are quaranteed to be playing in offensive situations and getting offensive results which will feed confidence.

Gaudreau takes a lot of pressure away from Fantillis shoulders and he wouldn’t have to worry about carrying a line.

Load up the other top lines with Johnson, Laine, Jenner, Marchenko but keep Gaudreau with Fantilli
Does this make other teams think that would be the CBJ's top, most dangerous offensive line? Do you want Fantilli playing against all of the opponents' top defensive pairs?

Absolutely on board with this.

In a Bedard-less draft, he probably was a strong favorite to be 1OA even though the folks in Anaheim obviously felt differently.

The Beniers comparison is spot on. Your plan B of putting him down in the line up (no Cleveland, please) makes sense if he's a bit overwhelmed at the beginning of the season.

Even if he doesn't produce moderate numbers his first year, there are plenty of 18 year olds who didn't start off as top producers and had really nice careers. Joe Thornton and Tyler Seguin come to mind off the top of my head.

not saying they should throw him to the wolves but he's a 1-1 talent in most drafts and is physically as NHL-ready as any prospect has been in years. i get why the sillinger stuff has fans scared of their own shadows with this stuff but fantilli is a different beast entirely.

on paper he's their best option by far at 1C. he's immediately their most physical skill guy and probably their best two-way forward from the jump. even as an 18-year-old rookie, i'd much rather have him playing with gaudreau than without him.

anyone seriously suggesting that adam fantilli spends time in the AHL should be sent directly to the gulag

Not playing their most potent winger with a (hopefully) 1C would make no sense. Let him play with the best we've got. It will probably give Fantilli good stats and confidence from the git go.

That would be awesome. It would answer questions quickly. I'd rather have them answered as soon as possible so we can make conclusions and change what is needed if any.

But I don't think that's how Babcock goes about it.

I don't want to see Fantilli facing the opponents top pair every shift. I'd prefer to see him start on line 2 with some legit goal scorers, but probably not Johnny or Laine. Let those guys and our new Vet #1C draw the fire from the other team, then send the young bull out to kick their ass.

I don't know if that's true on paper or in reality, there might be some lengthy adjustment period to playing in that position and playing with a great playmaking wing like Gaudreau. Fantilli has not utilized that in the past. He's not always made good use of his linemates in general. But I'm completely fine with starting that experiment right away and giving it time.

Johnson- Jenner- Laine would take pressure away from them.

& home games are far easier to match up as well

The other way to look at it as well is that if you put him on the 3rd line instead of 2nd line with worse linemates every team would love to throw their top6 line against that line and just try to bully them

I’ll say it forever but confidence is everything for young players and getting results goes a long way

Of course with Bab can’t know for sure but Gaudreau- Marchenko& Johnson- Laine pairings make ton of sense
