I mean it is his number. He’s the veteran. If he wants to keep it he can.

I just find it a bit odd considering Foudy was 18 in juniors, and that’s free now that Pederson left. I guess he likes 19.
Not sure how other teams do it , I know in other sports the player buys the other player a nice watch , etc.. and I get , we don’t want to create entitled athletes, but Fantilli is probably the most talented player to ever be drafted by Columbus , will sell a crap ton of Jerseys.. seems from story Fantilli wasn’t given an option

Who cares dude. Fantilli didn't care enough to make a big deal outta it. Most of the time if a rookie wants a number bad enough, he pays for it.

Selänne started with 13 instead of 8 (twice) and it turned out okay for him. If Fantilli will not make a big deal out of it, why should anyone else?

The guy Fantilli reminds me of more than anyone is early career Nathan Mackinnon.

Incredible physical gifts, but has some legit questions about hockey sense. Skates the puck into trouble. A few years into his career Mackinnon figured it out and added whole layers of deception to his game. If Fantilli can do that then his upside is just as high.
Haven't seen him maybe enough but I have exactly same questions. Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I absolutely love the skillset and game IQ of Will Smith. I think he will be a fabulous player going forward. He would have been my choice. Time will tell.

Around the 4 min make he says if we don't find the perfect fit, we're gonna head into the season with what we have, were a much better team from just being healthy.

Aka don't expect anything anytime soon. I'm not saying that perfect deal wont happen between now and October. But I think this is the perfect case of having too many pieces and letting them sort themselves out. And then you move those pieces when you have to.. hell for all we know we could beat next year's injury record we just set as franchise and that depth could save the season, extremely unlikely, but still possible.
