Dallas loans 1st Round Pick Lian Bichsel to Rogle. So chances are Engstrom will drop a spot in the LD hierarchy.

Not that Engstrom will no longer be a key piece for Rogle. But Bichsel will very likely take minutes from Engstrom.

Engstrom better gtfo Bichsel

Looking at stats alone, Engstrom is having the same kind of production as William Wallinder did.

Wallinder was a 2nd round pick in 2020 by the Red Wings. Engstrom was a 2022 3rd round pick by the Habs.

First full years at Rogle:
Wallinder: 19 pts (4G, 15A) in 47 GP
Engstrom: 16 pts (6G, 10A) in 43 GP

Second year at Rogle:
Wallinder: 26 pts (7G, 19A) in 50 GP
Engstrom: currently on pace for 25 pts (5G, 20A) in 52 GP

Wasn’t Wallliner selected 32nd overall? That would make him a first round pick in today’s 32 team nhl… my point is Wallinder was a really early second round pick (borderline first rounder).

Correct. But technically, he's a 2nd round pick. But yes, he's 32nd, so now he'd be considered a 1st rounder. But even as a 2nd rounder, he's the top pick in the 2nd round (similar to Beck being 33rd OA and being the first players selected in the 2nd round).

And Engstrom was taken like 6 picks before the 4th round, so he's closer to the 4th than he is the 2nd (had he been a high 3rd round pick).

Isn't that discouraging? Wallinder did slightly better than Engstron, and he isn't even good enough to play in the NHL for a weak team (Detroit) in his D+4.

Stats may be similar but;
Wallinder: 6'4", 192 LBS
Engstrom: 6", 168 LBS
I prefer Wallinder even though he may not be a physical guy despite his size advantage!
Detroit thought enough of Wallinder to sign him to a 3 yr contract back in March.

The more positive way to look at it is that Engstrom, in his D+1 and D+2, is basically achieving what Wallinder did in his D+2 & D+3. He's practically a year ahead of Wallinder's curve.

Gawd.....not this again.

Engstrom is 6'2" and at least 190 lbs. He is also an elite skater which you won't notice by only looking at Hockeydb stats.....

Also If I remember correctly Wallinder wasn’t the fastest skater, especially going backwards or pivoting, which might be the biggest hurdle for him to translate to the NHL.

That’s surprising, I only read praises about Rogle being a well-coached team doing a good development work with prospects. Maybe they didn’t win enough.

Well here’s your chance @WeThreeKings maybe (just maybe) the Rogle guys would be an upgrade over your favorite AHL coach :sarcasm:

it is surprising at least to me but they were having a bad year so I guess they aren't messing around over there. Will be interesting to see if the team turns it around. I haven't gotten to see too much of him this year but as long as he keeps getting top 4 TOI then I'm not concerned.
