That's the first spot on the defensive defensemen line excellent knowledge of your positions do you know any number 1 D that were available? What would we give up? Or is this 1 D free?

From a Leafs team perspective it doesn’t matter how good Tavares or Marner or Matthews or Willy is. What matters is how it functions as a collective and in the playoffs that’s been pretty bad. So, the defence that posters use that Tavares is this almost point a game player is beside the point, it’s what his 11 million hurts from a team success standpoint.
The same goes for the other three but to a lessor extent Willy

It sometimes seems like people are more attached to these players and the untenable cap situation than they are to the team itself. Players come and go.

This is what exactly? What players are we comparing again. You want me to do your work for me. There won't be many. Then again how many scored more then JT 23? So I'll take my percentage of him being above more players then being over paid compaired to the free agent classes since. Then your chances of finding a quality player that's possible but if we had good trading pieces no reason you don't trade for your number 1 defenseman anyways. You believe everyone wants to play in Toronto with your mentalities plus most players will play worse here. So anyone you aquire you basically should expect them to be at best 95 percent of the player they were, or would be else where. So How many of those that made free agent status I would guess you expect the same leverage a RFA would get? So how many Free Agents that had more points then TJ make comparable to TJ? And how many didn't choose us because we had TJ. When they are an FA. You just got to say I'll sign. Then trade away the cap space needed... guess it was never needed players don't love Toronto . What can you do, maybe be a better fan lol then they may want to play for your team.

Tavares contract is the reason, Hyman, Kadri and soon William Nylander will be leaving. Also Tavares contract put the Leafs out of contention to sign Alex Pietrangelo. Dubas was a complete failure.
