at this point in his career he should be on the wing, or 3rd line C, that would be better utilization imo.........

At even strength, 35th in goals and 48th in points, despite playing mainly with the RW who was 3rd in goals and 5th in points, and sometimes with the RW who was 6th in points.

To look at it another way, while they were usually on the ice together at even strength, Willy had more goals than JT had assists, and more than twice as many assists as JT had goals.

Yes, he's good at faceoffs and at standing in the slot during PPs, but not much beyond that.

Great way to treat your players, we’ll agree to a deal until things go south, then we’ll jettison you like a used bandage and you’ll do as your told. Who in their right mind would want to work for a organization that would do that? I think a large amount of the posters here are due wfor a course in ethics……….
 
Tavares has 2 years left on his deal. We will be fine. Worst case he is a winger his last year of the deal and then we get a ton of cap space.

I also don't get talking about a PPG center as if he is a Vlasic who isn't an NHLer and needs to be dealt with. He is overpaid but nothing franchise crippling like some like to go on

Where does JT get his points? He is slow of
Foot. Yes he is elite level smart but he doesn’t do the things we need him to do like going to the dirty areas. At this point he is a LW that can fill in at C if needed and will play even strength and PP. Another 11 million dollar winger essentially.

Looks like the Leafs options are down to either Treliving "asks" Tavares to waive no trade/ stupid compensation trade occurs/ team flounders for the next 2 years or Leafs might need a Tanya Harding style solution 😉

The only other option is that "Brad Treliving" is actually Kyle Dubas 20 years into the future coming back to right his wrongs and coupled with the ability to have now "seen the future" he's secretly here to help the Leafs finally win the Stanley Cup! Ala Biff from 'Back to the future II' lmfao

Poor Leafs fans 😢

people actually think a perfectly healthy Tavares would agree to this nonsense?

I’m predicting JT scores 150+ points over the next 2 seasons… then signs a team friendly contract under $2 million.

the haters will continue to hate.

There is no way any players will voluntarily go on the LTIR for a WHOLE season.
If he is injured till March or something, I can see him being convince to take his time and come back in the playoffs.
 
1) Tavares cant be captain next year.
2) Leafs can not win in the next 2 yrs with that 11 million and that guy in the top 6.

The only solution is play a hard line with Tavares and essentially force him out, tell him he isnt the captain and ask him to waive his no trade. He wont go thru 2 years of being benched or placed on long term injury. He is a 5 million dollar 3rd line center as this point. BUsiness is business get him out of here, retain some salary and give Matthews or Reilly the "C"
 
Good Lord.

This is crazy.

Tavares is the ball and chain, and his boat anchor contract is what set this team back. The moment he signed that contract it was over. Now he's got two years left on his deal while the team surrounding him continues to deteriorate every year.

But paying him $11M to sit at home as a healthy scratch is doing no one any favours.

The only way out of that contract is time.

I'm sure Tavares is going to be healthy until February 28th., 2024.

Stretching the wrong way 10:00 AM on the 28th., just 2 days before the deadline ... what a sad break ...
