Kind of a moot point. When a player demands a trade they have (almost?) never got back even close to fair value.

So who knows?

I'm scared he won't resign since all his friends got the boot out of town.

Max dollars will he spent to keep him in Ottawa, if he stays. If Melnyk doesn't do so, expect an angry mob with torches and pitchforks waiting on Eugene's front lawn.

Ottawa counters with Hamilton + Monahan + Brodie and then tells you to go **** yourself.

Karlsson is on the top of the world, and as a Sens fan I respect that. However, you're being offered at worst a #3 defenseman who is young, a fresh #6 overall pick, and what is likely a top ten pick.

Not the worst offer I've ever seen on HF before. At least handle it better, like the poster quoted below.

Those are 3 good assets, but this is the best Dman in the world, you gotta do better than that.

If Karlsson walks/is traded for a bad return, Euge is better off selling the team. Who's gonna come to the CTC to watch Bobby Ryan fall all over the ice?

Same offer for Subban. Ristolaonen, Reinhardt and 1st

In retrospect, done. At the time (pre-trade), meh. Great value, but it'd need one of Reinhart or Risto to REALLY top out on their potential to make it worth the risk. I think similar logic applies to Karlsson. The Sens would say no right now, I think.

Would it ultimately be a good thing for Ottawa to be forced into a real rebuild? Get back to being the draft and development beasts that they used to be?

Except they just traded a 51 point 23 year old center and a 2nd rounder for a 58 point center that will be 29 before the season starts... haha
And they just traded for a 31 year old with 5 years left on his deal worth 7 mill a year...

Wonder where he would end up going (in this scenario).

BOS, DET, NJD, PHI would be interested for sure in the East. possibly TOR, NYI and NYR as well. In the west, which is more likely, I think the teams that would go after him are MIN, ANH and ARZ. Also possibly the four Canadian teams, who have top pairing RHD but could want an upgrade or a really deep blueline.

it would never happen, but maybe in a year or two. Nylander, Gardiner, 2019 1st, B prospect for Karlsson. ? I know now great but if he requests a trade ans he's close to UFA you're not gonna get absolute value.

Absolute value would probably take Rielly, Nylander and something? Which is fair but I certainly wouldn't do it. Sens fans, just wondering is yhe last one close? Idk what is fair value for hom

Phaneuf on the Sens and Karlsson on the Leafs. Just doesn't seem right. But Hall is a Devil and Subban is a Pred so why not at this point?

Possibly Gallagher Galchenyuk and Patches with another prospect

Or maybe Carey Price one for one

Not too sure why you're so convinced Karlsson is going to want out. I mean he's on pace to play in more playoff games in his career than the guy in your avatar and look how long it took him to clue in?

The difference is that he at least knew the team was willing to spend to try and win. Karllson must feel somekind of negative reactions to the team always taking the cheaper options, trading away stars as they are ready to get paid, and overpaying mediocre players to compensate not giving out real paychecks to their stars.

The Brassard trade is more of the same. Looking at actual salary vs cap hit, it is very easy to see it was a financial trade more than anything.

The catch 22 is..

If Karlsson is traded anywhere, that team has to give up so much to get him, that the remaining team will probably not be any better than Ottawa anyway.

How many teams have the needed assets anyway?

Not sure which team would be the most likely to trade for him, but let's assume it's Dallas. Then Benn has to go the other way.

LA? Doughty.
Islanders? Tavares.

The only team that might have the assets to give up, without being destroyed on the position in question, is Pittsburgh. And they already have a top-5 offensive defenceman in Letang.

Perhaps Karlsson for Letang, 1st 2017 & 1st 2018 might do it. But I doubt it.

i dont see any of these happening. especially letang and two 1sts for karlsson. is the difference between a 1.00ppg offensive dman and a 0.94 offensive dman two 1sts?

If he requested a trade? probably a top 6 forward, B prospect, 1st rounder, another conditional 1st rounder, and a second.
