We must have the same bullshit. Friday night was easily the single worst sore throat of my life. I was once given a script for perc 10’s to help recover from strep (yes, it was way overkill and no i did not fill the script) and this sore throat was so much worse. Luckily it was quick, and then the man cold took over.

Totally agree, but you gotta be careful about taking too much. If you do, it has the reverse effect. Speaking from experience….

My favourite gifts are this lavender sachet and soap - both handmade by my daughter, from lavender grown in her garden. Homemade gifts mean so much. I slept with the sachet in my pillowcase and every time I woke up, the lavender scent reminded me of her and her beloved garden. Amazing gifts.

We had a fun day, hid the Christmas pickle in the tree (new tradition started last year, lots of fun), drank eggnog out of Moose glasses from Christmas Vacation, pulled crackers and wore the golden crowns, watched Mr Bean's Christmas. Little things that mean so much. Still missing my Mom especially, but there was an empty setting at the table for her.

am I alone in feeling relieved the holidays are in the rear view mirror lol

I have become a big fan of New Years weekend in my 30s after finding it overrated in my 20s. Usually get a long weekend off from work, hang around, keep the decorations up, make some fund food for NY eve. Basically everything you want Christmas to be without the rushing around.

Boom

The week after is a great week - laid back but fun

When the decorations come down and it’s dark and cold you will miss this week

I think I read somewhere the third Monday of January is the most depressing day of year (although it’s a holiday so should be Tuesday)

I had the reverse effect just once, but I think it was because I fought through the haze for a half hour or so, and then I was just wired. If it goes down the hatch and then I'm laying down within a half hour, lights out. The back of the bottle does mention that "excitability may occur, especially in children."

I go back and forth about taking the week off. Sometimes it's great with lots of winter stuff to do, but the past few years it has been gray and cloudy with minimal snow, even in VT.

I decided to work today and tomorrow, and push the two days into next year and use them for February vacation.

I personally hate April the most. It's like this December but without Christmas. I thank my daughter every year for playing softball because it gets us out during the mud season. If I was ever going to travel when I am older it would be Mid October to Mid November and April.

You might try a single Benadryl, two at most, before bedtime. It calms the body and makes you drowsy.

I don't do this often, but it can help. No side effects, at least for me. Consult your doctor.

I popped a Benadryl here and there when I was weening off my post-op shoulder pain meds, and then again when I had a major poison ivy rash spreading. Benadryl and vicodin had me all sorts of loopy. The Benadryl ended up being more addicting than the vicodin

I'm just going to say it. Christmas sucks as an adult.

You only get one day off, you're stuck with people all weekend long. Usually they steal my whole saturday dragging me on some day trip I don't want to go on. And at least in my case I spent time and effort getting people nice thoughtful gifts that would be meaningful to them and they gave me a f***ing JCPenney giftcard that was the first thing they saw at Walgreens when they went to shop on the 24th.

I wish I could go back to college and have 3 weeks of Christmas break and have some alone time to just play video games again.

Going on 10 years sober, so it doesn’t take much more than a sip or a single Advil PM to knock my ass out.

Megan, baby, and I have been trading sickness back and forth for going on 3 weeks.

I was on my ass for Christmas. Only now starting to feel like myself again. Made it back to the gym and appetite is back.

I picked up the new Mario game for the Switch and am taking it easy, watching Lord of the Rings.
