Lets be fair here. We have no idea what the real story is about this situation, only couple of speculative reports and some badly translated stories. Burmi didn't defect to the KHL and he remains Jets property that isn't counting against our cap. It could very well be a mutual agreement where Burmi makes money and gets more experience, while we save money that would have cost us to sign him to a more expensive contract.
Of course it's all speculation, but I'm looking at the sequence of events. If it were one of those "go over to Russia to build your game and come back things", you'd have to think that SOMEONE in the organization/media/team would have said something like that. I also think that, given the (again, supposed) issues that Noel had with Burmi's style of play, that moving back to Russia with a larger ice surface and a more open game is counter-productive to what they wanted him to work on. If they wanted him to find his offensive game, that's one thing, but there were frustrations with buying in, and this doesn't say that he left to work things out.
I also have to agree with Jet when it comes to some of the more negative minded people here. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so I don't begrudge people being negative. It just seems that with that negativity, we also get either no solutions, or unreasonable ones (ie. one post earlier saying we need a goalie like Jonathan Quick. Of course a Conn Smythe candidate would improve the team).
There are problems with the team, no doubt. There are some positives though. This isn't the worst team in the league. No one should be criticized for only pointing out the positives (nor only pointing out the negatives).
