Lets be fair here. We have no idea what the real story is about this situation, only couple of speculative reports and some badly translated stories. Burmi didn't defect to the KHL and he remains Jets property that isn't counting against our cap. It could very well be a mutual agreement where Burmi makes money and gets more experience, while we save money that would have cost us to sign him to a more expensive contract.

Of course it's all speculation, but I'm looking at the sequence of events. If it were one of those "go over to Russia to build your game and come back things", you'd have to think that SOMEONE in the organization/media/team would have said something like that. I also think that, given the (again, supposed) issues that Noel had with Burmi's style of play, that moving back to Russia with a larger ice surface and a more open game is counter-productive to what they wanted him to work on. If they wanted him to find his offensive game, that's one thing, but there were frustrations with buying in, and this doesn't say that he left to work things out.

I also have to agree with Jet when it comes to some of the more negative minded people here. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so I don't begrudge people being negative. It just seems that with that negativity, we also get either no solutions, or unreasonable ones (ie. one post earlier saying we need a goalie like Jonathan Quick. Of course a Conn Smythe candidate would improve the team).

There are problems with the team, no doubt. There are some positives though. This isn't the worst team in the league. No one should be criticized for only pointing out the positives (nor only pointing out the negatives).

It's just tiresome that we evaluate him based on each game if he'll be a star or a bust.

After the first game people said he'd win the Calder.
After last nights game people are saying he's on the verge of being a bust.

Agreed. Russia and game building do not go together.

Yup, its something people are going to have to get used to with rookies. In most cases its an up and down ride. For instance just 3 games ago Mark was the best forward on the ice. I also didn't think he was that bad last night myself. He was good again defensively other than that one turnover.

I think people are spoiled by Trouba. He came here and bust down the door but most of the time a rookie won't do that. I don't think he's been that bad either, he just isn't scoring, but that isn't an issue that only he's having either, the whole team is having issues with that.

Well yeah, except for the fact that it's not even close to that.

I realize that you're probably typing with tongue planted firmly in cheek, but it doesn't exactly help the discourse around here when nuanced opinions and preferences get painted with a crude and wide brush stroke.

I apologize for singling this post out in particular, because most people (myself included) are guilty of it at times. I'd just like to see fewer posts that are some variation of "everyone on this board", "95% of the people around here", "this place", etc. It does a disservice to anyone here that actually takes time to post their own unique thoughts and insights. Which would describe nearly everyone on this board (how's that for a blanket characterization!)

Hear, hear!!!

I feel like we are spending far too much time lately talking about what these or those posters think or feel or do. It's like high school. Also, it's OT and not why we are here. We are here to talk about the games, the players and the coaches.

They can. Mark Giordano came back a much better player. It depends on what part of your game you have to build. I think Burmi became this good defensive forward because of his energy, nothing spectacular about his actual technique and skill in that facet of the game. Going to a wider ice surface does not teach those things.

I think your onto something folix- I keep thinking this team is trying to be morphed-aka coached into a Western conference style of hockey. You know heavy on defense, checking blah blah blah. Good idea if you have the players for this- see our opponent last for a perfect example. Right now we seem to be getting the most from our team when they let the horses run free a bit. Too bad we are usually down at that point. It's a long season so who knows if this is the best approach - will this philosophy pay dividends in the long term? Maybe but at the expense of short term success- definitely.

But that's not even entirely true though. The most successful teams in the West don't play that game at all, I mean look at your Chicagos, San Joses, Anaheims, Vancouvers, Detroits and even the Blues as of late now that they have more skilled players like Tarasenko on the roster (LA being the only exception). I feel the above is a huge misconception but you are right I don't feel that this team is built to play a stiffling defensive system like the Coyotes and the Predators do. You should play to your strengths not to your weaknesses to better "fit in"

Ladd Little Setoguchi
Kane Schiefele Wheeler
Tagradi Jokinen Frolik
Halischuk Cormier Peluso (Wright)

Apparently these were the lines at practice today. Could Wright be sitting out?

So we have a bunch of new lines again. How is anyone supposed to maintain or aquire chemistry in this situation.

I actually like our chances tomorrow despite the whippings we received at the hands of the Caps last year. Aside from Ovi of course, I actually think the team stacks up well on paper ATM. Caps are currently 3-5, winless on the road, and are actually allowing more shots per game than the Jets are. They are struggling to score a bit at even strength...10 out of their 21 goals have come on the PP. (BTW Jets have scored 22 goals in one more game played.) If we can stay out of of the box, it could be a good tilt.

Of course, this could be history repeating itself and the Caps using the Jets to 'bounce back' all over again.

Also, I will be in attendance so a win is virtually assured. Get your 50 vbucks in there, it's probably all you have left...

Good enough for me! I will have some vCash riding on the Jets. Beleive it or not I have only bet on the Jets, and only in those contrarian circumstances where everyone expects them to lose. We are a fickle crew ;)

not sure but i do like the look of those lines. You can't say Noels trying to screw schiefele's offense if your sticking him with Kane and wheeler (even if wheels has been off this season)

Noel isn't promoting Schiefele; he is demoting Wheels.

At some point in the past, some people probably envisioned Kane-Scheifele-Wheeler as the future 'first line'. Well, here we go. The future is now, let's see what you can do...

Sit Wheeler for christ's sake. The guy can't even handle a pass right now. Peluso would be more effective then Wheeler.

Great post Hank. IMO we need more posts that start with IMO. That is no one carries more weight than anyone else it is just your opinion and lets not lump people together as haters etc. It is okay if we have different opinions. But my preference is to try to put a player/game/coach into some sort of bigger context rather than...he is ****, or he cost us, or fire him type of comments.

Its not the actual lines themselves which look good on paper, its the fact that Noel doesn't leave lines together for an extended time to develope chemistry. He's pretty much trying to throw darts at a wall board and stumble upon a combination that works. Do you really think that he is going to manically stumble upon this cbination or do you think the more prudent plan would be to choose some combination and give it some time to work?
