This kid is going to be special, he will be a coaches dream.
I see bergeron lite, faster skater, slightly less offense but will be a nightmare matchup C
I think he will be 2C under larkin, with Kasper being 3C
When they are ready, they likely start on the wing of Compher/Copp and slowly learn faceoffs against NHLers

None of us are any professional scouts but some don't identify little things every shift like how a player times his movements on the ice. He also shows that hockey sense in all 3 zones where some players just don't thrive in certain areas of the ice. Having that kind of sense in the fastest league in the world against elite players is what separates the skilled tweeners and bottom 6 players, from legit top 6 NHL players.

Danielson showed pre-draft and all season this year why he's that kind of player who plays fast but can also slow the game down. With more time refining the tools like his shot, hands, vision, he's going to be a great player and a favourite here like Larkin has been. That is some kind of 1-2 Center punch built perfectly for the modern NHL.

As said above, he's literally a coaches dream and these players are typically solid playoff matchup guys who can put up points too. Sending him back to junior this year was a swift move considering how he played in preseason.

Also thanks Ogee for the game update. I'll try to be at both if not one of Victoria vs Portland on the 23rd/24th and post updates here as well

I don't know why people are upset about the guy getting shutdown duties sometimes.

I would much rather have a guy with decent natural leadership, shooting and passing combined with A+ skating and a motor who can legit play a shutdown game. That's how you end up with a Patrice Bergeron.

If Danielson is a 20-30 guy at the NHL level who can prevent the other side from scoring we've hit a home run. I think he'll be more than that. His skating and foundational skills alone will let him score 70 points with decent wingers.

He's not Glendening. Glendening never showed half the offensive skills Danielson has at any level and his defensive game was overrated.

I think you will have the face offs on dominant hands aspect to this, but again that part of how you age out Copp and Compher who are both good down low as wingers is a great element of the plan in my opinion.

Could be Ras or Zadina.

People aren't mad about him getting defensive minutes. It's the implication that he's a shutdown guy. Go back a few pages. The talk was about what that means.

I wouldn't ever consider Datsyuk, Fedorov, Zetterberg, O'Reilly, Bergeron, Kopitar as shutdown guys even though they were given tough defensive matchups. All were highly responsible two-way forwards.

Shutdown guys were Mike Peca, Mike Fisher, Mike Ricci, John Madden, Jere Lehtinen, Kris Draper, Sami Pahlsson. Guys with the specific task of limiting the chances of the top scorers of the other team. It was a bonus when they scored but never an expectation.

Danielson is somewhere along the lines of a Coutourier, Larkin, O'Reilly kind of player. That's definitely the first group. I'm not sure how much Danielson will score in the NHL but I wouldn't be surprised to see him pot 30 a few times.

The notion that defensive forwards have no offensive skill is asinine. Can we just drop that narrative?

He looked great in the preseason, could not go to the A, was on a poorer team in the toughest league in major junior and (as some of us predicted) has been dealt to a team with a better roster.

3 points in 5 games at WJ
13 points in his last 10 in Portland, while playing at a +8.

No complaints. The fact that he is the 3rd best progressing draft pick in this class of Wings selections speaks volumes to how vastly improved the Wings scouting has gotten under Yzerman, not his play.

What sort of offensive production are we expecting? He's at 1.3 ppg since getting traded to Portland. If he is getting mostly D-zone starts is that actually all that underwhelming? I know the numbers can get pretty gaudy in junior, but that doesn't exactly scream LFG to me 🤷‍♂️

And a lot of people forget that the numbers in juniors are gaudy because most junior players (even Bedard, McDavid, and Crosby) don't bother to play any defense.

If you read Danielson's interviews he takes a lot of pride in his 200 ft game. He would probably be 2+ points per game if he only focused on half the ice. That's why I don't see much of a drop off in his PPD at the NHL level.

The whole LFGD thing is Ogee's strawman to win an argument. NOBODY is comparing Danielson to LGD. If he mentions it again, I'm just gonna laugh at him and call it good.

Ok, ENOUGH of this NONSENSE. It’s not “LFGD,” it’s not “LGD,” it’s not “LGDFLG.”

It’s LFG.

LUKE F****** GLENDENING.

Ok!? You guys got it?

LFG. And his defense was not overrated.

Also. Reported again.

What's the F stand for? Francis? And why does he use his middle name? Is he a country singer?
