I'm admittedly not watching the games, but I'm very ... curious on what people who are watching think of Danielson - between last night and so far tonight, Portland has ... 17 goals - and Danielson has 3 points. Is he getting unlucky? Or does he lack a finishing touch? It just seems very odd that a top 10 prospect wouldn't be just racking up the points playing on a team like this.
He's also only 6/17 on faceoffs tonight. I wonder if they are using him in more of a defensive role tonight.

Danielson’s line has been creating more consistently than the rest of Portland. Seattle is matching their top line against him which hasn’t mattered, but Seattle’s goalie has made some stellar saves against Danielson’s line.

O’Brien-Danielson-Nguyen
They’ve been great even without points. Tons of o/zone time. They’re deployed in the d-zone but move up ice quick.

Portland had 25 shots in the second. This Seattle team is a shit show.

And I’m doing something I’ve never done at a hockey game; leave before the end of the third period. There’s a family of shrieking babies ruining the experience.

I hate that. Especially when it's the people right behind you. Shrieking or the dude that thinks he's smarter than the guys on the ice.

He’s usually good at the dot but tonight his line wasn’t very supportive at the dot. I wonder if it’s because Portland thinks it’s a cookie night tonight.

His linemate Nguyen looks like he might be a something. Kind of scrappy, very speedy. I hope Detroit invites him to Traverse City.

It was so bad I was getting a headache. A few people in front of me were also complaining about it and left early.

His car probably already has brakes.
But what if those brakes are broken? They could be on the brink of getting busticated. The car goes bang, with that trunk full of bric a brac, strewn all over the byway.

By gum, we better buck up and bring him that brake before it gets bad.

It's still too early to know if he becomes something good, but how did you see him in this game passenger or a driver on his line , on his team

LOL, as I expected.

Somehow you guys decided to make it into some weird strawman that I said he's LGD, but whatever. He was acquired for that defensive role. Oddly it's weird that an opponent would match up the top line against him since that's exactly what Portalnd wants.

But anyways, keep gaslighting away....

Being defensively responsible and taking the d-zone draws isn’t a sign that he’s a shutdown guy.

His job was to win possession and skate the puck out. Turn defense into offense. His line did that. Shutdown guys spend all game chasing the opponent or grinding on the wall. Danielson’s line didn’t need to do that.

You have LGD PTSD, lol. Shutdown doesn't mean zero offense.

Isn't he the player getting the toughest defensive assignments? That's what I expected.

The only (pleasant) surprise is that he's on PP1. Otherwise he's being used pretty much the way I expected.

To your point, aren't these people forgetting that he is a '2 Way C'? His job is way more than just scoring goals. If Yzerman wanted that kind of player he would have drafted Savoie over Kasper.

Isn't an "elite" 2C the same as a bad 1C? Why do people here overuse the word "elite"?

If Danielson indeed becomes a 70 pt player, it's more like having 1A-1B option anyways. Right now the Wings' best winger is actually playing the second line, and JT is a 50 pt center.
I personally view an elite 2C as the equivalent of a 1B. Not a superstar, but good enough to be a 1C for a playoff team. Crosby-Malkin or Matthew’s/Tavares wasn’t a true 1A/1B that was more like two elite #1s. More like a Point/Stamkos situation or Seguin/Duchene that’s a 1A/1B

Certain people want to push the narrative that Danielson is a low ceiling, low skill guy that won’t be better than a third liner. So their “gotcha!” Moment is pointing out that he gets heavier defensive assignments than Klassen who is not nearly as strong defensively. It’s like saying Larkin is a shutdown guy because he goes head to head with other top lines.

Right now we don’t know exactly what we have in Danielson. But I’d bet it’s either Dylan Larkin-lite or Dylan Larkin 2.0. A lot of similarities in their games, both strengths and weaknesses. And that is a very good prospect to have in the pipeline.
