Not to shit on Dvorsky, but I really wasn't sure what people were seeing in him that he was worthy of a top 10 pick. Good player but with the talent available on the board, I'd have taken him between like 19-24 at best. It was a good draft to gamble on the 'boom' prospects in the teens because they really did look good. Examples being Yager, Wood, ASP, Moore, Perreault, and even But (who I'm still unsure on).

He played Sweden juniors but didn't particularly have a dominant skillset, so I was weary of his late rise. Something about his offense at least that left me wanting a lot more.

Even guys like Yager got weird reps for being "low IQ" and Danielson "not producing as a late birthday". Something about Dvorsky clearly scared off Hakan and Co. and it says something when they went back to Sweden at #17.

Too late for that, he’s gotta stay in the WHL for the rest of the year… I’m hoping at some point he gets traded to a different team
I'm waiting for the mysterious note composed of letters cut out of various magazines and newspapers.

Dear Brandon Wheat Kings:

You certainly don't HAVE to trade Danielson to a team better suited to his development. But then again, NHL scouts don't HAVE to ever attend your games in the future.

Have a nice day,
St. Eve Manzery

Allsvenskan isn't juniors. LDN is playing there in like his +10 season.

Dvorsky has been dominant anytime he actually plays against players his age.

Bullet dodged.
Weird conclusion to take from that.

Dvorsky is not having a good year immediately after being drafted. It's not the end of the world but more often than not it spells a prospect that doesn't meet their potential.

You mean 10 games into his +1 season where they thought he was good enough to play in the SHL but was getting limited minutes?

Oh no.

I was alluding to J-20 but ya I failed to mention Allesvenskan. Brain fart. My point still stands though.

Maybe it's unclear what I mean by dominant. I'm thinking in terms of how well his play translates to the NHL if they actually think he's going to be a top 6 C. I don't see an offensive play driver at all, and that's what some see him as. I don't see high offensive upside.

I think the best situation for him is like a Jordan Staal, and that's a pretty good outcome. He may carry a line defensively (won't quite be at Staal's level) but I don't think he will be carrying anyone offensively. In that case, I just didn't see the worth for him to be picked so high. Others did and that's up to them, but I'm just glad everyone overlooked Danielson so we can reap the rewards there.

That Sudbury team is going to be stacked once they get some chemistry and get their legs under them.

Maybe People feel a need to get some jabs in now… Because Dvorsky could go nucleur on that squad.

J20 where he had 21 pts in 10 games? Ok.

I was at the game. He was realgud. His team was not.
Brandon was scoring goals at the start of the year when Hadland and McQueen were playing up in the lineup. They should try putting those 2 on a line with Danielson. If they don’t get things going hopefully Nate gets moved to another team.

Because he is under contract to Brandon/WHL, same reason he is not allowed to play AHL.

I think He is fine playing in the WHL this year.
It would be nice to see him break out and dominate his peers before moving to professional.

The kid is in hockey's version of purgatory. Signs a "contract" at 16 to play in the WHL and can't earn a living, nor development. Have to agree with the other post. The Wings should force a trade to a top team in the WHL.

Maybe we can look at this as being a positive? (Stay with me here)...

He's stuck in Major Juniors, nothing we can do about that, right? We know he's better than the competition and he's capable of so much more, so he's kind of "stuck". But say he was in a situation like Zack Benson and Matthew Savoie as linemates for the Winnipeg Ice?

What value does he get from just...wrecking shop by having another elite talent setting him up or catching his cross ice passes and both of them putting up 2ppg. Kind of like...playing a video game on easy mode. Sure, you crush monster numbers but you're not getting any better and probably pulling stuff at that level that just is flat out not going to work at the professional level.

OR

You could have miserable teammates, and are ask to basically be the bedrock and play in all situations, and the only way you're going to improve or have a chance to win is if you setup your teammates THAT much better: you are faster to your spot, your pass needs to be that much more accurate or easier to handle, you need to be able to hit that one-timer as accurately with a bad pass than a good one.

To carry the video game analogy: the difficultly level is set to Easy. We can't do anything about that. But if you're going to try to improve, do you want to play Easy with an All-Star Team, or are you playing with a Team Japan?

Just another way of looking at it?

Maybe we can trade him straight up for Erik Cole or Kyle Quincey to salvage something from this bust of a pick

If he needs to be in the perfect situation in order to work on his game and get better, he probably shouldn't have been the 9th pick. He'll be fine. It's not dissimiliar to what Larkin has had around him over the years.
