has mclellan cemented himself as the worst coach in the tournament? honourable mention to torts of course
the coaching took a team of young hot shots and got them to play as a cohesive team, and win against veteran teams, many of which have had player combos that have lots of experience playing together. The NA team has exceeded expectations.
As for MacKinnon not knowing about the stakes, I agree that it's coaching's job to communicate that, but at any rate the team was still pushing hard to score in the third while Sweden played shutdown hockey, and if you can't show how a factor affected on-ice play then it's not a factor. I don't think him knowing or not made much difference, and there was still a signficant consequence to losing in regulation so doing crazy gambles at the end could have cost them.
I know that if Russia advances tomorrow, it will look bad on NA coaching and that's inevitable. However if NA lost in regulation today, and then Finland won in OT tomorrow, then coaching would also be raked over the coals if it happened because they did something like pull the goalie.
