Yes, and that created a chance for himself. Then Matthews recovered the puck, dangled a guy from his knees, played a pass across to Rielly, Rielly shot it and Matthews drove the net to put it in. Mcdavid was just standing in the corner while all that happened.

NA gameplan seems to be to get those breakaways and I think it's not just better speed but also superior tactics getting those breakaways all the time.

Well I base a lot of my criticism on Laine's average board work on his performances against a lower level of competition, while Matthews' seems a bit subpar right now but at the highest level.

Remember the play where Matthews passed to Eichel, McDavid was going for a breakaway 5 feet in front of him and Eichel makes a terrible pass? Eichel could even just have let that go through.

Eichel's been bad, as in every game.

It sucks we didn't get to play NA in the exhibition games. We would've needed that lesson before today. They are fast and dangerous, but vulnerable in their own zone. But it's only 1 goal and it's really entertaining!

First breakaway would've been a GOTY had he finished, second one he had no chance as Karlsson was all over him, third one he went bar & out which is unlucky. I do agree with you however, he does need to work on his finishing ability, but I seriously doubt any player in the league could finish on 2/3 of those breakaways. Thats whats McDavids going to have to do to set himself apart from the rest.
