Appoint a coach with an outdated - not to mention bad - system.
Leave your better - arguably best - players at home.
Make head-scratching lineup decisions.

Yup, that score is accurate.

Not only outdated system...

The dude can't get the best out of his players because they don't want to play for his sorry ass.

Why the **** was he still there?!?!

They probably felt bad about it later, Modano said he did...BUT I saw that game vs T Euro and Yanks -- with all their brave talk about this is our Time/emulating their 1996 World Cup team, yadda yadda --- just made it worse for themselves, with the way they played vs T Euro...and make no mistake shot totals were deceiving Yanks were never in that game...

That first period of game one...that's the worst I ever saw a Yankee team play in a Best on Best tourney..and in the heat of the moment I can't blame Modano, Hull, Chelios etc for feeling betrayed and for throwing them under the bus, so to speak..

I don't think that's the case at all. They selected a team to be sound defensively and grind Team Canada into the ground. They literally did the exact opposite.

The only joy I had all game was when Parise said in his intermission interview that they "were playing pissed off." Then it immediately cuts to Hull and Hull says, "I don't know who he's trying to kid here."

The management sucked, the coach sucked, and the execution of the game plan was garbage. They said exactly what was happening and I have no problem with that whatsoever. Actually it probably saved viewership since I just wanted to see how the team was sucking and what Chelios or Hull was going to say next.

Congrats, Team Canada. That was domination and almost a perfect execution of a game plan minus the slow start.

Also, please lose to Team NA. Thanks.

Pretty sloppy game all in all. One nice goal, two at the most the rest were pretty iffy. Canada jumped out in front and shut the door for the most part. The last 7 minutes were just sloppy from Team Canada perspective.

Yeah it was more like about 7 minutes not ten...But oh my it looked messy...felt longer than it was...

Don't wanna give them credit...BUT u'd never see team Swede close out a game like that!

No shame in losing to Canada and the US will be back much stronger next time. And quite frankly there's just absolutely no reason not to have brought along a guy like Kessel... Americans don't need to hang their heads over this one, place the blame with the guys who built the team to begin with.

Price not looking too hot. His spot for the semis is not set in stone if Crawford or Holtby is a brick wall tomorrow

And did that post suggest otherwise?

Yes. It said:

US are barely a top 6 team is this tourney .... no surprise here , let's move on to a top team and beat them down
GO CANADA
maybe next one, US and Mexico can combine - team South-North America :)

I don't know how to read this any other way but meaning that Mexico is in South America, which it's not. Combining players from two countries that are both in North America =/= team South-North America.

Congratulations to Team Canada. They deserved the win and it was mostly a fun game to watch. I hope they construct Team USA very differently next time.

Right considering most of your players aren't even American :D

What does nationality have to do with anything other than it's all you have to cling to? I mean isn't Canada kind of supposed to win this thing? I think Tampa Bay has more players participating the the World Cup than any other team, and I'm proud of all of them. Toronto is a joke.

There is something fundamentally wrong with US hockey. They have the same issues as the Russians do. I honestly believe the difference between Canada and those two countries is that Canada's best players are all willing to take on roles to help the team win - they simply have better character guys than these other teams.

The Americans and Russians are lead by a lot of me first type players.....selfish types that rely on other players to help their club teams win. Guys like Kesler and Kane - complete ****** bag personalities. Contrast the leadership for Canada being guys like Bergeron, Toews, Weber......character guys.

Easy to bash the team when he wasn't picked...even though he wouldn't have been there anyway due to injury. He looks like a child with that.

Every body keeps saying that but he wasn't on the initial 16man roster and should have been, given his playoff and what he did in Sochi and he publicly expressed his disappointed...

Doubtless if IF he had been named to the roster, he woulda delayed having surgery on his hand and who knows how that might have changed things...cause he is a game breaker!

The Americans have some crazy young talent now, to the point that in four years if they actually take their best players they won't be far off of Canada talent wise.

I feel bad for the players who were left out of Team USA and had to watch this.

It also is strange how Tortorella complains about offense. Doesn't he understand that without a proper system it's really tough to generate any?

It's not a talent issue. It's a character issue. The US are simply overrun with more me first, selfish hockey players. It's always been like that. I am not sure why - a culture thing I guess.

The Americans were handicapped by the NA team.

There's no need to be poor winners fellow Canadians.

I would agree somewhat but unless they showed the willingness to select Kessel, Johnson, Faulk, maybe Galchenyuk they can't cry about missing a few players off team NA.

The problem was the type of player they wanted ahead of some of the smaller, faster, skilled players.

This is true.

Still no reason to act like *******s. ;)

The win was great but reading some of these posts by SOME Canadian fans takes the edge off a little bit.

Be prepared to take heat when the shoe is on the other foot.

Pretty scummy thing for Abdelkader to do running Price in the first. A goalie that just missed 12 months and he made it really obvious what he did. Hence the penalty.

It would certainly have been possible though difficult for the U.S. to beat this Team Canada if they had sent their best team and it had played its best. But that didn't happen for reasons USA Hockey will want to address. I am sure this board will be ready to offer its advice!

But my fellow Canadian fans are ignoring reality if we do not recognize that the talent gap is narrowing every year. It would be appropriate to be gracious tonight and to remember that next time it could be different.
