In other words, have some continuity between the men's national team, and the style of play emphasized and taught by the USNTDP. From what I can tell the US development model has shifted heavily towards skating and puck movement, so it would be nice to see those qualities reflected in our national team, even if every player isn't necessarily a graduate of the program. Instead we get Tortorella trying to grind out wins against more talented opposition.

Absolutely.

Future US National teams will have Eichel, Matthews, Kyle Connor. There are more than enough talented US players to put together a solid team that plays puck possession hockey while being above average defensively.

I lay the blame for this team's failures almost entirely at the feet of management. First, Lombardi put together a really awful team from the very beginning. There were numerous cases of players picked for the team over far better players, all in the name of "grit" or whatever, and we were screwed from the word go. Then, they put that idiot Torts as the coach of the team. There's a reason he has been with 3 teams over the last 3 years: he's a bad coach with a terrible system. I think most US fans knew it was a long shot for us to do much this tourney once we saw the team as finally put together.

I am just hopeful that the depth of this debacle is enough to get US Hockey to clean house among management, and maybe actually get a GM and coach that realize it's actually the 21st century at this point. If not, we're going to get embarrassed again in the Olympics in 2 years, assuming the NHL players actually get to go.
