He suuuuuucked in the finals and semis, but he lit up Slovenia

The 2014 Canadian team was one of the greatest defensive teams ever assembled, maybe the best. Kinda tough to hold it against him for not scoring in that one. And if I remember correctly Kessel had one of the US only scoring chances in that game.

Meanwhile guys like Abdelkader, Dubinsky, and Backes have never lit up any team ever. All those "gritty" guys always comin up soft.

Well the boyz played well for 50 minutes against a tough and desparate opponent...BUT that last 10 minutes very sloppy...especially from Carey who seemed to lose concentration and was NOT tracking the puck well at all...

Ya got an opponent, heck ur arch rival, on the ropes, deliver the knock out punch...what's all this cutsy stuff trying to set-up Stammer and then Duchene for a goal?...Who cares about the hatty? Who cares about getting Stamkos off the snide...Who cares who scores? They started thinking game was over when it wasn't and it almost cost them BIG TIME! Team Canada dodged a bullet...

As for Yanks? They kinda lost their heart for a while there...I mean there were periods when they couldn't get puck past center ice..But they outhit Canada Bigtime, and generated chances in spurts, but the puck luck just wasn't there

Having said that, I feel no pity for Team USA...they deserved their fate because of how brutal, BRUTAL they played vs Team Euro...Honestly the only member of their team I feel sorry for was QUICK...he deserved better puck luck today and WAY BETTER SUPPORT from his mates in game one vs Euros. Seriously 6 odd man rushes in the first period vs T Euro ( an inferior opponent, on paper ) is the real reason this team is going home ( and rightly so ) with their tail between their legs, so to speak

Torts? Nothing Good to say about him!!!

You still haven't explained why Phil Kessel is solely to blame for those losses.

Why didn't the US cut Patrick Kane? Pavelski? Oshie? None of them did **** against Canada in Sochi and they're still on the team.

Why should Kessel take 100% of the blame?

Those other players have a modicum of two way play.

USA would have lost no matter who they had on their team so excuses about the roster are not going to cut it in the real world.

How many in the semis and finals against real teams?

USA forwards have combined for just 1 assist in 2 games here, that means they will all also go pointless in the Semi's and Finals here, at best equal to Phil and he's not even there.

Even if Phil only scored in the round robin against Europe and Czech, they could have moved on.

Love Chelios and Hull. Totally green when it comes to being a tv analyst. They don't have a clue how to sugarcoat it. Never been trained.

Had points against Russia, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. No one on the States scored against Canada or Finland, so I'm not sure what point you're trying to prove. They all played against the same competition and Kessel was better than all of them. He was voted best forward in the tournament factoring in his games against Canada and Finland (where he was not bad by any means). Give credit where credit is due.

Your argument is ridiculous. We might as well start criticizing certain Canadians for not getting points against Norway or Austria if this is the line of reasoning we're following.

I take no pleasure in that win as a Canadian fan. The Americans have enough talent that they should be able to be a lot more competitive than that, but their management and coaching is an absolute joke. A hard fought loss would have been more entertaining that a routine win like that.

SV% 968 after 2 games while facing 63 shots... The only 2 goals he allowed was score by his own player(Thortnon)and once he was interfere by Vlasic. Nothing he can do on those goals.....

He wasn't all that focused you could see. Like I said nbd.

Did Backes cry in the post game? or on the ice in the final minutes?

I definitely saw Kane on the bench, in the waning moments of the game, choking back tears, at the end of a shift...Torts kinda patted him on the shoulder and sent him right back out on the ice...

Torts almost seemed fatherly there...

Yes because regional pride (club teams) are a lot better than national pride right? :D

Did I say that? Anyway I guess it's subjective. I'd rather see a team I've been following for years win in an 82 game season and then do well in the playoffs than a one-time assembled team win 6 games then disperse and go back home. I'm sure you prefer the latter since it's your only option at the moment

If Tortorella was coaching Canada it would be the same result. Any coach could win it all with this team.

How can you tell? They barely played defense that entire tournament. They just owned the puck and relentlessly hammered the opposition net with shots.
