I thought the game start good, middle part was boring, near the end got really good.

My point was that they could've played better throughout the entire game, not that they didn't get outplayed.

Could they though? It looked like they tried but they got swallowed by the Swedish team tonight. They barely created any chances at all and that is mostly thanks to fantastic two way play by the swedes.

Russia is always lethal, it's not the first and certainly not the last time Russia will come back in the very end of games. Especially remembers a few games against Canada  Must never let go of the gas against Russia.

if the ref called it a good goal, I don't think Toronto could over turn it

I trust Ovie's acting, that he indeed grazed it

Not that it matter, but why would we trust Ovechkin? I think we should trust our eyes and well I cant see any touch.

The execution of that Swedish D was just amazing. Alot of fans complain about the Russians firing blanks, but it's very hard to produce when you have no space whatsoever to work with the puck.

The guy with the puck had no room, the passing lanes were mostly shut down and the shooting lanes were almost never there. They were mobile enough to keep up with the best Russian skaters and the even contributed offensively. The Swedish D is praised being as good as Canada's for a reason and tonight they proved it. Add to that quality two-way defense and no cheating on the backcheck and you don't score many goals.

On the other hand, Russia's D struggled almost as much as the US defense did. They simply have an unmodern blueline, they're not mobile enough, aren't effective on the outlet pass and panic alot.

Having mobile, puck moving defensemen in hockey today is crucial if you want to be successful.

You have to remember, the goal review guys have dozens of cameras with views they don't show us at home. They know if it did or didn't hit his stick

Boring game but that's to be expected. Sweden has the best D in the world, and Russia has no D which neuters their powerhouse offence (+ playing against Sweden).

Everyone is praising Markström, and sure he was good, but most of the shots he faced were from a distance and with no screens.

Our D finally showed what they can do though. But I still want to see a little more from OEL.

Ekholm was solid. Still want Lindholm there though.

Play lundqvist next game, if he plays well you run with him, If he struggles again, you run with markstrom

Good pace.

What do you European fans think about games on the smaller ice? Personally I enjoy the faster pace and increased physicality.

I like it. Not that big ice makes for poor action, but I think I prefer the smaller rink. As you say, it gets a little more intense.

It's pretty funny there's no room for guys like Lindholm, Klingberg and Brodin on the team. Sweden actually has a pretty good defense for their B-team.

not to mention edler as well.

So does Sweden ride Markstrom?

If this is a regular season I think you can go back to the King but in a small tournament you ride whomever is hot. And sometimes whomever is hot is whomever your defence is playing better in front of.

Brodin is the 3rd guy in our b-team

Add Edler, Kronwall, Larsson, Enström, Klefbom etc.

We are stacked back there. :)

I thought Hjalmarsson and Hedman played really good defensively. Hedman is one of the few that is elite in both ends. God I wish Detroit had a player like him.

Lundqvist is playing the next game if he's feeling 100%, with a 100% certainty. Markström has been really solid, but he's not been tested that much either. He has made a couple of quality saves, otherwise it has been routine saves.

If Lundqvist plays poorly the next game, then Markström probably plays.

I think with this game Ekholm has cemented himself ahead of Lindholm as Karlsson's partner for this tournament. Really solid the whole game through.

Canada and Sweden clearly have the best 2 D in the world. Love that the Oilers have two of the next wave with Larsson and Klefbom. Klefbom is legit, he's about to break out.

Not to mention we both have Ekblad and Liljegren ready to take the torch down the road for our nations.

Sweden's D and two way forwards are just scary. Almost impossible to score on it seems.

If it touched anything, it's Strålman's. Not sure how anyone can see that touching Ovi's stick. That part looks almost conclusive, and with the call on the ice...

Yeah I was thinking the same thing... Like wasn't even nervous after seeing the replay before the call came.

Can't fault AO for trying, but it didn't touch his stick.

Think both teams played well. Sweden could take advantage of Russians Ds. Think Russia is a very good fit for Sweden this tournament.

I have Hedman in my top 5 for Dmen in the world.
