yeah and even though I was rooting for Sweden I thought that he did make contact

imo it would definitely be a good goal if the refs ruled it on the ice

Yes, it's one of these things. It's pretty unclear so the call on the ice stands.

Ovechkin was really close though. It was all up to him, he just missed the puck with his stick(Or didn't hit it cleanly enough).

No muffins and hot chocolate for Markstrom.

No Shutout Smoothies for Markstrom

Russia, garbage as always nowadays in best on best tournaments. Malkin is a joke. Should bench himself. Still hope Russia make semis so we can see a classic Canada blowout.

Right, Russia is garbage :), I'm sure you think Team Denmark are excellent though.

Typical that we almost dropped the ball with 33 seconds left. Until that flawless defense. Russia is a tough opponant. First competition game against Russia that Sweden won since 2004 was it? Was our time to win then.

Why the hell did Russia just wake up in the end? Primadonnas, they have to learn how to play 100% the whole match.

I don't think that they "woke up", they simply got a lucky goal with 30 seconds left. Russia got dominated this game, they had nothing and the score should never had been close.

How could you even think it touched Ovie's stick? It clearly didn't. They showed from several angles. Puck went straight into the goal with no interference. Ovie's stick wasn't even close to the puck.

If it touched anything, it's Strålman's. Not sure how anyone can see that touching Ovi's stick. That part looks almost conclusive, and with the call on the ice...

if the ref called it a good goal, I don't think Toronto could over turn it

I trust Ovie's acting, that he indeed grazed it

It doesn't matter if it touched Strålman, does it?

If he used his glove it has to touch his own stick before it m crossing the goal line, right?

One thing though, now I see the replay again and it really did look like the puck begun spinning faster after it went past the stick. However, if it was due to the Swedish player's stick it would still not count so even that is pretty inconclusive.

Not sure why Ovechkin is getting all the blame here, he wasnt worse than anyone else on team Russia tonight, and in the end it was almost him who all alone tied the game from a two goal deficit. Malkin? Tarasenko? Datsyuk? Panarin? Kucherov? They combined nothing.

Bobrovsky was far and away the best russian player on the ice tonight.

Hahaha, an Ovechkin snipe is called 'lucky', nice one :).

It would've been typically Swedish to allow 2 goals in the last 30 seconds after playing a perfect game and then lose in overtime. But yay! First championship win against Russia in ages!

Probably not. But how can you think it's even 50% likely it touched his stick? Also, referring to it as "acting" is more than likely accurate.

This.

It didn't touch Ovechkin's stick. It was obvious on the many replays ESPN showed.

Don't know what is motivating the people who keep claiming it did.

Good pace.

What do you European fans think about games on the smaller ice? Personally I enjoy the faster pace and increased physicality.

It shouldn't have been that close. It bothers me.

I don't disagree with the call on the ice, but it could have gone the other way.

At the end of the day all the replays show it's inconclusive, so I disagree with anyone saying for a certainty that he did not touch it
