Is that what you took from that clip?
Reminds me of guys calling in to WFAN just venting without any substance.
What else am I supposed to take? That's what he said.

He was asked if we have too many skilled players and he said that yes, that is a problem.

We the other team has the puck, everyone's a goaltender.

I just explained Torts' defense in ten words.

What's Quinn's system?
I'm sure Torts would 100% agree with you.
What you just described is an identity, not a system. By Quinn stating that even the skilled players need to sack up, he is attempting to build an identity.

Ok, but again, what's our system?

What is our defensive structure?

You've watched them play 91 times now since Quinn took over. What do they do?

We have some holes, but the team is still underperforming relative to it's on paper quality.

That requires some alternate explanation
It’s hard to say how good a team is on a paper when half its players are kids. Chytil was our 2C on paper; Kravtsov was our 2RW on paper.

What we’re looking at now is an inexperienced roster that has played a small sample size of games, coached by someone who is also relatively inexperienced. Veterans are being asked to pick up the slack with all these young players; Kreider and Kakko; Trouba and Hajek. There is a lot being asked of everyone...Quinn, rookies, veterans, goalies. Consistent structure and effort is a lot to ask, and frankly I don’t see a lack of effort, I see a young team making mistakes and struggling to hold onto confidence. It could take years to mold all these kids into NHL players; It’s been a month with a totally f***ed schedule. This is a learning experience, even for the veterans...Panarin and Trouba both left good teams, Kreider has played most of his career on a contender, Hank is losing his f***ing mind, etc.

Staggered 2-man forecheck and flex box zone D. Under 10 words.

Don't forget napping until the other team is set up in the offensive zone and then reacting.
It's exhausting for Quinn psionically control 5 guys on the ice (goaltenders seem immune) so he needs to recharge when he can.

Maybe one day he'll be gone and the players can have some agency in what they do on the ice.

Something like that is coached.

Frankly, that level of mind control would be better used as head of a pyramid scheme. Quinn is wasting millions not having a zombie Herbalife(R) army doing his bidding instead of making ice hockey players play poorly.

So you think every defenseman to play for this team since October 2015 has individually decided they will almost never step up at the line?

Seems realistic.

I really doesn't matter what we think of Quinn. If the players don't respect him, don't look at him as anything more than a college coach, this team will never get better with him behind the bench.

That being said I have no idea why Kreider works out so hard in the off-season when he doesn't skate or play hard in more than half his games. Complete waste of time.

Exactly.

This is why I'm talking about structure coming before effort.

Guys aren't going to bust ass for you if they don't believe in what you're asking them to do.

I haven't seen anything from Quinn that inspires confidence. It's chickens without their heads just like late AV was.

Ok, so the left side is rancid, but frankly, the right side of our defense is one of the better ones in the NHL. There's no reason they should be this bad defensively.

The Oilers came in and played a decent defensive structure with one good center and an even worse defense than we have.
