I was wondering this too.

Seems like they felt Seider had more offense to him, but he was simplifying his game because he was a teenager playing in a men's league. They could feel Kasper is a similar story.

Kasper is already comitted to defence more than younger players on this age.

Comotting on defence does always eat some offence away and you look like "less skilled", because there's less production.

But that's winning hockey. Like Yzerman said, he plays the right way and is efficient.

"Efficient" for me between the lines means great GF% which is based on low GA, not so much on high GF. You can't have both.

Lucas Raymond was kind of same. They already play defence, and are not basic idiot youngsters going all-offence.

For anyone interested in seeing some extended video of Marco, I thought this was a solid video to watch. You can take or ignore the commentary, but from my glance it seems like if he is able to get with a shooting coach to become more comfortable with his wrist we, then I expect him to score a lot more. I love how much he drives the net.

Finally a video that doesn't just show the same 4-5 plays!

This reinforces my opinion that I don't get the "limited offensive upside" reports. Just because he plays well defensively and get some dirty goals in front of the net doesn't mean he can't do other things. I see good skating, hands, vision, and creativity. I wasn't dancing on draft day because I was on a bit of an Oslund high, but I love this pick and think most people are really underrating him

His all-around skillset seems very solid, but watching the shift-by-shift videos, I'm not sure I agree with some of the superlatives I've seen used to describe his skating as being "great" or "fantastic".

It seems overall good to me, and nothing that will hold him back--but a little choppy at times, and lacking in the kind of first-step burst that would bump him into that elite tier. Though if he spends some time with a skating coach and a squat rack, he could really become a nightmare to play against.

Perhaps a good thing, because if he could also skate like Lambert at present, he'd have been gone in the first two or three picks.

I get the right place @ the right time vibe from Kasper a la Lucky Luc. Kasper being a much better & faster skater, but both knew where/when to be to capitalize/create scoring.

Reading all the comments about Kasper I have a deja Vu. Defense is there, but I don't see the offense... I don't see the upside... but if he will find offense, you look back at the pick and you more then happy.

Anybody think that Wright or Savoie would play in the SHL the last 1,5 years? If Kasper would play junior hockey his numbers would look completely different. I haven't seen a 16 year old starting in the top line in a pro league. He has to play 4th line, if he plays. And Kasper has earned the trust of his coaches so he gets bigger minutes and starts to produce more.
Remember Seider, he wasn't playing offense a lot, because it was not his task at this age.
I trust our scouting much more than the scouting of the other experts in the last 3 years.
While it’s true he’s been in Pro’s the last few years, he DID play 4 games in the WJC last year but only had 1 point.

Yeah I mean Trocheck as a CEILING isn't what I hope for being a basement team making a lottery pick. NHL purgatory....
I mean what do we have to do to cheer you up? We picked 8th man. Not 1,2 or 3. Infact we have NEVER picked 1,2,or 3 in my lifetime. So I'm sorry your expectations are just beyond normal. I mean you probably wouldnt be happy with most of the 1,2,3 picks in the last few years living in NJ or NYR land. The most offensive upside player we have drafted that had a lot of draft hype was Zadina... The one time almost everyone on this board was the most excited ive ever seen after a draft. LOL. Lets wait and see. But if you are expecting us to find 80+ pt players.... you are setting yourself up for depression. Just be angry in advance unless we start the season 0-20 this year. Because we are not getting Bedard either.

How many people thought Larkin would be a 70 point player or JT Miller would put up 99 points?

There is a wide range of outcomes with these kids.
Amen brother. As i said, i take the opposite approach to prospects as most here. My default opinion is they will "bust" or not make the NHL. Because this is the MOST LIKELY outcome. Anyone who makes it is impressive. So i always appreciate any success any of them have. I expect nothing. Its a much happier way of viewing our prospects

For an Austrian team that should be at the WJC D1A level. He was good but there's zero support on that squad.

I was very happy when he drafted Zadina. I thought he was going to be like Kucherov. I just want a good team man f***!

8th isn't a lottery pick although I understand what you're getting at. Ceilings are super hypothetical though, it's not some exact science. Kasper's got no flaws bad enough that there's a need to put an absolute ceiling on him. Realistic ballpark is a good 2nd line center, but he could become more or less.

Ouch.
Seider is born in Rhineland-Palatinate maybe 1 hour away of the famous Nordschleife or 1.30 h to Rammstein.
Kasper is Tyrolean, Innsbruck is 40 minutes away from the German-Bavaria/Austrian - Tyrol border.

Don't call them bavarians.
Nordschleife / Nurburgring my fav. track.

Designed by a not so nice dead dude.

I get where your head is at. I also would love a winning team. We will get there. But I think you may have to think of the wings as having a good team like Carolina style as opposed to Toronto style. As in more solid players playing as a team vs having 1-2 superstars that are so good they literally drag the team with them.

Kasper gives me Lundell vibes. Lundell has a better shot but overall I feel both players are greater than the sum of their abilities/skills.

Lundell, Beniers and Kasper are all guys that look like they will be greater than the sum of their parts and will provide similar impacts to their teams on the ice.
