Prospect Info: Sawyer Mynio: 89th Overall 2023 Draft (Seattle) - LD

IIRC, he didn't beat out a single player who had an NHL season under their belt. He was good in camp, and his first season was arguably his best as a Canuck (which is kind of a red flag), but long term it likely didn't help his development very much to go straight to the NHL to play bad hockey in a bad environment.

We have a different recollection. Hutton was a standout at camp/preseason and was clearly one of the top 6 defenseman. There was a lot of hype/excitement surrounding his performance. This really isn't up for debate.

Looking back, Hutton played in the season opener logging over 17 minutes. He went on to play 75 games logging over 19 minutes and leading all Canucks Dmen in points (granted Edler didn't play a full season). Again, the guy was 22 years old, physically developed, and was clearly NHL ready based on his rookie performance. And this was a team with Edler, Hamhuis, and Tanev on the backend to help guide the young player. The guy has never played a single AHL game since. If you believe that Hutton was better off developing under Green in the minors you are free to do so.

So, now that his World Juniors are over, will Mynio be on the move soon? What would be best for his development—an early end to his WHL season and a chance to practice or even play with Abbotsford, or a WHL playoff run?

It doesn't look like Mynio will return as an overager so Seattle should trade him.

Mynio actually has a lot of experience. He's been involved in a couple of WHL playoff runs including winning the championship and has Memorial Cup experience. He's played in 1 AHL game and now he has also played in the WJC.

In terms of preparation for next season, practising and maybe playing in a few AHL games is probably better but again it's not like he has zero AHL experience. So I don't think there needs to be a rush. I think a playoff run where he is front and center would be good for him. Have a nice cap to his junior career and he can enter next season confident and on a high. But it probably doesn't matter.

I imagine lots of gals that were fans of the show like the name subconsciously.

Side note: for any fans of LOST (at least for the first few seasons before it completely went off the rails) I would recommend Severance. Season 2 comes out later this month.

Our parents watched wayyyyyy too much TV. Then you end up with kids named "Christopher" spelt "Krystofer". Sawyer is actually pretty measured in terms of names this way. Keep this kid.

Not to derail the thread but s2 of Severance is my most anticipated watch of 2025.

looks like a safe player. Rarely fumbles the puck nor was he a liability. The Canadian defence actually actually decent but if you ask me, not offensive enough, although that was all on Cameron ice time allocation. he played it safe knowing his role as a bottom pairing guy on team Canada.

I thought Mynio was effective at getting his shots through from the point, but there was often little traffic in front, and the goalie easily tracked the puck.

Seemed to me he was just 'playing it safe' in this World Juniors, afraid of making a mistake. But then a lot of players on Team Canada were tentative and tight.

But it's feather in his cap that he's improved enough to even make the World Juniors. He's come a long way since the Canucks drafted him.

Mynio might be the guy that is the most realistic prospect to flip for help up front.

I think he’d have significantly more value than a guy like Kudryavtsev but is probably further away from playing NHL games considering he still has such a slight frame.

He’s also probably far more likely to have a bigger NHL impact if he hits on his potential…

…but it seems like the plan forward is to do whatever it takes to be a legit contender next season so we can re-sign Quinn before his UFA season even starts.

Yeah I'm thinking if they land that "mid 20's impact forward" that's been rumored, our 1st + Mynio would be the base of the deal.

Just don't know which team is going to give away that kind of player regardless of where they are in their cycle.
