Dude, that would be the dream.

I think we all see Kasper as about as close to a sure thing roster player as you can get out of this draft, but there's a definite sliding scale of outcomes.

These are just player comparables I think could be a range of outcomes
Low low end (3rd/4th line tweener)- Sammy Pahlsson/Rob Niedermeyer - our worst case scenario
Low end (3rd line)- Darren Helm/Lars Eller - 2nd worst scenario but I think it's unlikely this happens
Low-mid (2nd/3rd line tweener) - JG Pageau/Mike Fisher
Mid (2nd line) - Philip Danault/Joel Eriksson-Ek/Andrew Copp/Bo Horvat
Mid-high (Upper tier 2nd line/1st line tweener) - Ryan Kesler/Sean Coutourier/Nico Hischier
High (two-way 1st line center) - Ryan OReilly/Dylan Larkin
Best case outcome - Patrice Bergeron/Henrik Zetterberg

Obviously we all want Kasper to turn into that perennial Selke contender 1C but I wouldn't be down if he becomes a solid 2nd line center that gets top 10 Selke votes.
Sean Couturier in his prime is absolutely a better hockey player than Larkin ever has been, fwiw. Near ppg player, like Larkin, with a lot of Selke attention. He’s now injured a lot and fallen off, but Couturier 3 years or ago or so, very good first line center.

A very good two way center near a ppg is absolutely the best case scenario for Kasper. I just don’t think it’s super likely. But hey, Seider proved everyone wrong, right?

So we are hoping he becomes Vincent Trocheck one day? This makes me kinda sad...
I would be thrilled if Marco Kasper is the player Vincent Trocheck is.

82 game avg of 21 goals, little under 34 assists? Of course I'd love for him to reach even higher, but if he hits Trocheck level? That's a damn fine NHL player.

I mean, Trocheck's best year... He rode right along side some pretty upper end NHL players.

If he produces like Trocheck and brings to the table all the things that people say he will bring on the defense and physical side, he’ll be regarded amongst the best 2Cs in the league.

Was just thinking this. Kasper is bigger than Trocheck too. He just needs to stay healthier than Trocheck and I’d be thrilled.

Mo said something pretty similar about his own game when he was in the Euro leagues on Spittin Chiclets

Maybe I'm mixing the two up lol because youre right Seider definitely said that.

Yeah that would be so sad if Kasper becomes a top 6 center thats capable of 30+ goals and 75 points...

Dude, if you draft a Trochek-level guy every year you're going to be an elite team. I get it's not sexy but any GM would be thrilled getting that level of player once a draft.

I get it though, you want to draft someone where the pundits say, "I see the next Malkin or Ovechkin!"

But my friend that guy doesn't exist at pick 8. Sometimes a David Pasta slips through and surprises the world, but that's the point, it's always a surprise. You're never going to know that on draft day.

Is this the draft report you'd be excited about?

Pastrnak hasn’t always shown the intensity to be a player in big games. Can handle the rough stuff, but too much of it turns him into a bit of a perimeter player. His still undersized frame doesn’t help that situation. Also tends to make poor decisions in trying to make the ‘super’ pass. Can also be physically slowed down in corners and held behind the play. Defensive zone coverage is clearly not a passion of his. He also has times where he seems more concentrated on deking out defenders than actually making a simple, effective play. Still has a ways to go before being a playmaker of sorts, even if he traditionally gathers more assists than goals.”

So just relax and see what happens. If you're right, you can be smug about it the next decade. And if you're wrong, you get to enjoy better Wings hockey. Win win, my man.

He was a third round pick. I expect more than that...

Once.

Lidstrom was a 2nd round pick.
Fedorov was a third round pick.
Zetterberg was a 7th round
Datsyuk was 6th
Johnny Gaudreau was a 4th.
Henrik Lundqvist was a 7th.
Brayden Point was a 3rd.
Etc.
Etc.
Etc.

And Slater Koekkoek, Dylan McIlrath, Pavel Brendl, Cam Barker, Alexandre Daigle etc. are all top ten picks

When a guy is drafted has jack f***ing shit has nothing to do with what they become in the NHL.

And he bested 20 goals another 4 times.

It honestly seems like you look for reasons to shit on guys if you decide you don't like them.

So... I guess larkins career will end up being better no?
Also depends. As I said, Couturier has had the better prime so far. He’s also three years older than Larkin. Larkin has not had a better prime than Couturier thus far and thusly hasn’t had a better career.

There are good reasons to explain it, but let’s not forget how bad Larkin’s season was just two years ago.

Shoot if he scores 30 and 75+ that's top line center material. And a good 1a 1b between him coming into his prime as Larkin has his 30+ years.

Yeah I mean Trocheck as a CEILING isn't what I hope for being a basement team making a lottery pick. NHL purgatory....

Also some realgud stuff that hasn't been posted yet.

Just like in the SHL playoffs, the more icetime Kasper receives, the more he tilts the ice in his team's favor. That's a sign of a realgud player.

Just like I argued in Seider's draft year he would get a lot of points just by virtue of being able to hold the blueline and touching the puck a lot to keep play alive, I'm making a similar argument for Kasper. When his line is out there they hem in the opposition. With good wingers I can imagine him getting 60+ points just by virtue of keeping the puck in play in the offensive zone and how he disrupts the opposition in transition.
