Meanwhile, Flyers play another solid game against a good opponent.

Sandstrom has got his shot and fell short, but that's why rebuilding teams give players shots, most will disappoint, but you only need to hit pay dirt on a half dozen over a 3 year period.

Nice to see Sanheim show up, hopefully he'll do it for a full season next year.

They played Boston's second string and lost.

The Flyers (29-38-13) have lost seven straight games (0-6-1), a stretch in which they've been outscored 32-15.

But hey, they played solid. Really hard to play against.

The last seven games have been a brutal stretch, 0-6-1, but it's not like they've laid down and died.
xGF 47.84% HDCF 46.24% Sv% 87.44%
go back to the TDL 6-10-2 (so includes win streak as well as losing streak)
xGF 49.34% HDCF 49.92% Sv% 90.60%

The TDL matters for bad teams, b/c players know the season is over and motivation is hard.

There are teams mailing it in since the TDL, Habs xGF 42.10%, Preds 40.19%, CBJ 40.10%, Ana 38.35%.

Those stats look like laying down and dying.

Being in company with some of the worst teams in the league makes them look worse.

Motivation was going to be fixed by the magical Tortorella. What went wrong? How did he fail?

I wonder maybe he realized he's going to the retirement home after the year and that's why he's upstairs...

If the players aren't motivated to play, that's the sign of a bad coach. Doesnt matter what time of year it is.

Especially since, you know, were trying out all these new young players to see if they fit for next year. What's it say if your young kids are collectively disinterested in playing? Let me guess - they're all bad prospects that Hextall picked. It coulsnt possibly be a lack of motivation from the people above them...

It’s weird because laying down and dying is what the coaching staff has been publicly accusing them of

Seen multiple writers/reporters from the boston area in disbelief and blaming the flyers fans for not showing up....are you kidding me?

The organization quit on us. Phillies home opening weekend, Easter Sunday....no record for us to set...of course the buildings gonna be empty.

This season will be remembered as the season we let the Bruins break the record and the season we should have been even worse to maximize our opportunity at a generational player but instead we finished just far enough out to essentially guarantee we don't win the lottery and don't get a top tier prospect. Truly one for all time.

It’s been going on for like 2 weeks.
The coaches accusing the players of "laying down and dying"?

Come on now. You know that's not true. In multiple very recent interviews Tortorella reiterated that effort has very rarely been a problem for the team throughout the season. He was complimentary of their compete.

The last seven games, 5 on the road, 4 against PO teams, 2 against teams fighting to make the POs, I'd say an xGF 47.84% is evidence of a team with limited talent playing hard. Just look at the teams that have gone belly up since the TDL and their putrid xGF%.

I think if you asked any player, it's really hard to go out there and play hard with a few games left in the season and nothing to play for other than stat padding.

And I'll give Tourigny some credit in Arizona, they haven't gone belly up despite maybe the worst roster in the NHL after TDL trades.

Maybe if the coach spent more time behind the bench motivating players when it mattered, they could rely on more than just "trying hard".

They could have brought up Foerster and Attard and Zamula the second half, maybe won a couple more games, and picked 8th or 9th. Instead, those minutes went to players they're evaluating in the "who gets thrown off the island" phase of rebuilding.

I don't see how you can expect much more from the current group other than play hard and learn from your mistakes. Torts has tried a lot of combinations the last few weeks, more about player evaluation than winning games.

The real changes will come in June. Trades are going to happen.

I'd say Foerster, Zamula and Attard are locks for next season.
Desnoyers faded a bit down the stretch, Lycksell didn't show well, but they'll get a shot in TC.
Ginning surprised, and they may give him a game, but I think he returns to LHV with Andrae to start next season.

Did you expect them to be better? Particularly without Couturier and Atkinson all season?

We knew that Couts would basically be out the season from Day 1 and same with Atkinson. With this info, if I remember right, you were trying to say we would be at least a .500 team and they sure as f*** ain't that.

If anything, the fact that Couts and Atkinson are out and yet the Flyers still couldn't together a better season shows a combination of how terrible the team is depth wise and the lack of any real offensive system. The fact that the Flyers are currently sitting last for PP in the NHL is really telling for that. Hell, Torts basically didn't give a shit about it.
