At this particular moment in time, I am happy to be a Devils fan.

This is the best choice this team could have made at this particular point in time when weighing in all externalities. Strome and Marner were as good as gone even with us picking 6th and Zacha is a center with huge upside and potential to be an underrated first rounder.

In Shero I trust. (Re-sign Gomer nao K thx)

Petr Nedved mentored him. Nedved was a good player but was also a little crazy (always fighting over his contracts and he asked Gretzky for a autograph after his team just lost to him in the playoffs) plus he played for the Rangers. He can be groomed by Nedved and Patty (even if its only the summer and preseason) no wonder he is excited.

Oiler fan here. I really like this pick for you guys and hope it works out. I watched Zacha a lot this year and despite his ups and downs really liked what I saw. He is fast, talented and has a lot of bite in his game. He also did a very good job against McDavid in round one of the OHL playoffs. In fact, that was some of the best hockey I saw from him all year.

Thanks. We like our pick also and he seems to like it here aswell.

mainboard seems to think taking him 6th is a huge mistake. kinda weird. we needed offense, and the guy was ranked 6-8 region pretty much all year. pick was good imo.

He has more question marks than other players.

I feel like his question mark, his production this year wasn't high enough, may be overblown. Zacha's production the 2 years before this year appear very good, so this isn't a case of a guy with tools who never produces like he should but instead a guy with a history of producing having a lesser year.

I'm not saying the question mark doesn't exist, what I'm saying is we shouldn't only focus on this past season when looking at his point production.

The only guy I think you could argue about at that pick was Provorov. There were some safer bets on the board but that's not the kind of player this team needs. Nor is it the kind of prospect this team needs. They have plenty of safe players in the system.

The Devils themselves felt there was a difference between Zacha and the other forwards given the fact they didn't trade down and d-men went with the next two picks before the Sharks arguably reached a few spots for Meier.

Even though I think Zacha has some question marks, I won't fault the staff for going with upside. That's what we need to be doing.

I would of loved Provorov, but I trust this is the very best forward (Big Center) who has tremedous upside. He also can play two way strong and shut down top teams.

I know for alot of people here would of preferred Barzal and or dropping back. But you figure, Columbus and Philly were taking D and I don't know what SJ is really thinking. Shero has gone on the record stating he tried to make moves (trade down with columbus) and combo the 2nds for a 1st. So, if people on all sides should be happy he's proactive with picks and trying to improve the team.

I do like the respect that continues with Conte making the picks. If LL were to be replaced, Shero seems to be the very best torch carrier for the Devils way. Because he grew up in hockey and the fruit doesn't fall from the tree.

Zacha, quick video review:

I have looked at a few videos on-line. Thus, I would be highly skeptical of the following, but...

- His WJC highlights are sick. He can shift to a gear that leaves other players completely flat-footed. Latvia, Swiss..he has wheels, hands, and my god that shot
- His right hash-mark one-time is deadly. The release, speed and accuracy are basically like Cammalerri+
- I am extremely excited about this pick

Thank you. It's great to hear someone who saw him a lot had a high opinion of what his play:D

Excited about this pick, feel like he can make an impact in the NHL with his size and our lack of forward depth. Glad there will be competition tho and if he makes it I hope Elias-Zacha is a line.

really hoping this guy proves the mainboard wrong

Main board are a bunch of fools. I understand preferring other forwards that NJ could have picked (like Barzal) to Zacha, but Zacha was a perfectly fine pick at the slot the Devils were selecting. Zacha really wasn't an off-the-board pick even though there are questions about him, as there would be for any forward who was there when the Devils were picking at six. Zacha has a lot of potential, and I'm excited to have him with the Devils organization (just as he seems happy to be here.) The main boards aren't going to ruin my mood, that's for sure.
