If hes ready to play in the NHL he will. You dont hold a player back just because he has juniors eligibility left. Players can evolve in the offseason. Look at Yayo and Larsson last year.

Why we have camps and preseason. Try and figure out if he can pull a Monanahan and hit the ground running.

We also have learning coaches in place. Not the old Pete regime. So it's a good place now for kids.

I can't stand that 2 years of juniors rule. I'd rather him play one more year in juniors and then a year in the ahl. I hate how it's either juniors or NHL for chl prospects

I kind of understand this. I mean come players just dont have anything left to prove in juniors. But need another year of development.

But i also understand because if players drafted could go right to the AHL the OHL could be in trouble because i would guess most teams would want there good prospects in their minor league systems right away.

Im not sure OHL could live of of 16 and 17 year olds only.

There could be a compromise though. How about one year and then they could go the ahl. Or every NHL team can designate one of their junior player prospects to be ahl eligible, one player a year. There's a way they could change this rule and still have junior hockey in Canada survive. There has had to of been situations where a players development was hurt because he was too good for juniors but couldn't quite make the NHL team or there wasn't room on that particular team.

How do his stats etc, stack up with Monahan's?

I mean they are quite different players and backgrounds. not sure if its really worth comparing.

but Monahan had 78pts in 58gms in his draft year. and 78pts in 62gms the previous. he was very much worth the top pick, but I dont think anyone fully expected him to make the NHL quite so quickly.

I really wanted him to fall to 9 in 2013. turned out it didnt matter even that he didnt

Unless he blows the door off the hinges in camp keep him in Sarnia and let him(hopefully) get a full year in the OHL. No reason to rush the kid.

If he can swing it and stay, then so be it. If not, then send him back after the handful of games. Either way works for me.

I really like this pick. A bit of a risk I suppose, compared to some of the players who went after who have been more consistent scorers in juniors, but the combination of size, speed, and skill is very enticing. Zacha will be a great top 6 C if he reaches his ceiling. Very cool that he seems happy to be a Devil as well.

We should give Zacha his 9 games. If he can handle it than keep him, otherwise send him back.Whatever looks like the best choice for his development needs to be followed through on, but there is no point in keeping him if he isn't going to play and do well.

was rewatching the Zacha draft on youtube, this time the Sportsnet feed, and noticed his NHL comparable was James Neal

Anybody who masters his english from watching Dumb and Dumber [...] I was just really hoping that he would be drafted by the Boston Bruins so he would get to meet Seabass

hahaha

Give him the opportunity to make it impossible to send him back. It's not like we're chasing the Cup this season so just tell him to go out there and play his game, coach him on his areas of need, and if he is ready he stays. If not, he goes back to juniors. It's a perfect situation for our kids because I don't think there is necessarily the focus on winning it all this season rather than to lay the foundation to be a consistent winner like we used to be. Excited to see this kid play though, very excited after this overall good draft weekend.

Really excited about this pick. Just heard that he was impressive in the 1st round against Erie as he limited McDavid to only 6 points in the 5 game series. Considering Connor was scoring at 2.5PPG that is impressive and Zacha seemed to be matched against him. Another example of how you can't read into stats too much.

I'll be interested to see if he will be NHL ready. We have a weak team up front and it seems like Shero wants to give him (and Josefson) a chance to make an impact. Wouldn't mind him playing in Sarnia and at WJC tho. It will all depend on how ready he is.

hahaha

While that was funny, the rest of the draft seemed like a joke as well. Honestly, it was really hard listening to them babble on about nothing. I miss TSN draft day.

Seems like everyone is saying the same thing . Trust the coaches to develop him properly whether that's going back or staying or a combination. This is not a short-term pick it's thought to be the future.

I wish our pick at 6 came with less of a question mark, but I'm behind the pick now. Hopefully this kid puts the tools together to be a focal point of the offense for years to come.
