Yeah no need to scoreboard watch again this year in all reality. We’re below .500 even again lol. Would need an incredible run and I don’t think we have anywhere near the horsepower offensively to do it.

Need to find one more big piece up front in the offseason. It's crucial. 4th line could really be revamped to add at least one faceoff ace and a couple of good banger/pkers

The ducks need a much more consistent impact out of Zegras next season if they’re ever going to have any chance at playoffs.

Agreed.
  • Play him at C instead of W; someone else takes the draws if needed.
  • Pair him with a sniper; he creates plenty, IMO.
  • Get a better PP coach; he's got 2 PPPs the last 68 games.
  • Get a better coach.
  • Learn to snipe.

The issue is that any drop off in goaltending(like we saw last night) for a 10 game stretch will automatically lead to us going 2-8 or 3-7 at best in those 10 games.

Just no margin for error

See I don't have any issue with what we've seen out of Z since coming back from the injury at all. Just last night he set up Killorn and Leo twice each for point blank one timers in the slot. Both of Leo's went straight into Binnington's glove and Killorn's straight into his pads. That was a multiple point night for Z easy if either guy could hit a corner.

True, I have higher expectations for him personally though and think he should be closer to a point per game.

He has 32 points in his last 67 games - not going to cut it. Yes, there have been injuries and horrendous coaching. But McTavish and Terry have found a way to produce more than him.

At some point the production has to improve

I know people weren't in love with Dumo anymore but it's not meaningless that now we get full doses of both Zell and Minty every game. They're not good defensively, to say the least.

I haven't watched the Gulls, but based on what I saw from Luneau at the NHL level, he wasn't any worse than Minty or Zell defensively—or offensively.

Something something about over-ripening prospects, LaCombe's success story, etc.

His increased all-around play in no way makes up for the precipitous drop in production.

Glad someone else said it. We can all agree he "looks good" or whatever but he HAS to show up on the score sheet. Disappointing as hell

Yeah, that's the whole spiel with Cronin. It's the "when your only tool is a hammer, everything you see is a nail" approach to player development.

Having first round skill players go from bad to moderately okay at defense at the expense of half of their offensive production is not something to be excited about. I don't think this is all on the coaching to be fair as Zegras has dealt with injuries the past couple years. But the dude has 13 goals in his past nearly 70 games over the last two years. He also has 2 power play points over the last 68 games which is insane to me.

We need somebody to ask Pat if he thinks it's been worth it to have pushed Z into playing better defense. He would say yes, but at least it would put him on the spot. Nobody in the media here would ever ask something kind of pointed like that. And does it really even matter that much if he's gonna be playing wing so much? You now have a very gifted offensive player who you've neutered and now it's not even clear he really needs to play better D because he's on the wing all the time.

Really disappointing how it's been handled. Totally agree with everyone who wants more offense. I'd take 60-70 winger Z playing bad defense over a 30 point winger who i guess is playing good defense.

To be honest i couldn't care less if he was awful defensively as long as he's putting up points because that's just the player he is and you can insulate him but probably a minority opinion.

I like Dumo, but our GM put our defensive youths in a terrible situation of being in an NHL rotation. Putting more import on the youth takes precedence over keeping Dumo for the rest of the season. It's a necessary evil, especially if one is seeing this year as another development season in year 3 of the Verbeek rebuild.

We did see a preview of what a youth pairing (sans LaCombe) looked like when Dumo and Trouba were the 2nd pair for a few games. The youth pair caved then and we separated Dumo and Trouba. The youths need more reps and experience than sitting in the team seats, watching the game. We see how LaCombe's game took on a new level once he was no longer on a rotation. Not saying Zell and Minty will reach the same level, but an incremental improvement will be fine too. Knowing what not to do when you get burned is probably one of the best teachers... unless you keep repeating the same mistakes.

Although, we could have put Minty in the AHL once we saw him struggling earlier in the season and still struggling. Problem is Verbeek did not have sign enough fringe AHL vet d-men to populate the NHL level. Before picking up Kylington at the TDL, all the Ducks had available were green youths in the AHL. But also Verbeek is treating the NHL level as his personal development level.

Vancouver won, Utah garnered a loser point, and , ofc, the Blues won tonight in regulation. A bad night tonight.
The reality is, when we lost to the hawks it was over. If you can’t get up for that game and
Looking at the standings, the ducks have a far better chance at another bottom 5 finish than they do the playoffs.

Another bottom 5 finish while a guaranteed firing of the entire coaching staff is fine by me

Yeah, I’ve been saying that ever since I looked at the last 3 weeks of the schedule during the 4 Natuons break.

Been a fun run though.

And playing the games tough to learn how to play them then getting another high pick isn’t the worst thing for the future.

100%. The mentality that EVERY player MUST be solid defensively has to change. Let players exploit their skills. Let Zegras be Zegras.

I think most people on here saw an equal finish to last season with almost the same roster. GM doesn’t bring in adequate talent, and the head coach and his cronies are all in over their head
