It's a lot harder to teach character than skill. Tkachuk over Zadina has a good chance of being Bowers over Tolvanen 2.0.

It might, but let's see how it plays out. None of us know how either of the two are going to pan out right now.

Brady will not only make his linemates better, but...he will make the whole damn team better. He will make the fans better. He will make ottawa grea... better.
Not really joking either. The guy will make everything better. Just unbuckle and grab a soda.
You related to him by chance?... jk

I wanted Zadina but expected this pick. I hope they dont rush him, he needs to learn to score goals.

Nothing Stone does is elite, aside from his smarts and his stick. But he's good at everything and just has that extra something that makes him more than the sum of his parts.

Kinda like Alfredsson was in a way. And I'd argue that he is one of the top right wingers in the league.
I think Stone had more goals in the WJC than Brady had this season... Atleast it was close.

Let's not forget that Zadina also fell past the Yotes, who picked Hayton over him at 5. I'm not saying this was the best pick, just that the Sens weren't the only team who passed on Zadina when he ended up going later than expected in the draft.

Like Landeskog? I don’t think so.

Landeskog played in Ontario for two seasons before he was drafted and had proven a lot more. It's not that Tkachuk couldn't have possibly done the same thing there, but as it stands his sample size is smaller and the stats aren't all that impressive, so there's a lot more of a judgement being made on pedigree, physical attributes and intangibles.

I think 50/50 .. If they can convince him to stick and possibly start the year in the AHL ... I think he'll play. If not I think he goes back to BU... or opts for London. Either one of those is a good choice if he isn't staying this year. I think for Brady its more important to continue developing against bigger stronger players for the way he plays .. pushing aroung 16/17 y/o in the CHL isn't going to do much except pad the stats.
Agree with that. But going with London will have other benefit.
If he is one of the oldest, he might be the go to guy all situation.

He could have the puck A LOT on his stick which would benefit from it.
Also, he will have formenton there, not a bad thing for possible chemistry.

Might be the same thing with BU. I think they are going to speak to coaches before taking a decision.

London : More games
BU : less games, more time to hit the gym.

I like both, especially because it is London.

I wonder what he would say about being picked by Sens if he is really honest.
This "I am super excited" phrase is very well learned but not very convincing.

Not blaiming him, what else could he say anyway in this situation.

For what it’s worth, Logan Brown on TSN 1200 said before the draft that he was excited about the idea of playing with his friend Tkachuk and that Brady had expressed the same sentiment.

I like this pick because it is the most interesting pick we could have made at this spot in terms of story and narrative. We're bringing in a player to a "broken" room who has been hyped as a pure leader with grit and skill.

I don't watch enough of the draft eligible players to be able to know what is the right move. I can rely on third party scouting lists and sources, but that's not the same as forming my own opinion by watching the player. Judging by those sources though, there's not a lot to be outraged about regarding this pick.

My initial fear, especially with popped collar Melnyk at the table, was that Melnyk might have been calling the shots, and dictating that we take the name player who'd be ready next season. Dorion's giddiness in the post draft interview put some of these fears to rest. I don't think he's that good of an actor, so seeing him giddy over this pick gives me hope that Tkachuk will be a very special part of our organization for a very long time.

It seems like the team had a very solid day one of the draft. They drafted a player at 4 that was likely in their top 3, and they executed a very solid trade to move down a few spots and pick up a mid 2nd round pick while presumably still getting a player their scouts felt very strongly about.

It's nice to see what seem like positive moves in an otherwise bleak time for our organization. I hope Brady can be that player who terrorizes division rivals, steps up when our players are taken advantage of, makes big plays and rallies the troops during hard times. Will Tkachuk be a Gary Roberts that rises out of the ashes of a dying hockey team?

I would be very happy with a Gary Roberts if we had some top offensive skill elsewhere in the line-up.

As it is, we’re on the verge of shipping most of it out so we have to rely on a future draft to obtain it.

Absolutely would prefer this kid to go have a big season in London. More games, huge minutes the top guys always get in London.
I’d want to see Brady have every chance to work on his offensive game.

Hard to argue with the success top prospects graduating from London have at the next level.

I’m sure having a 107 point season in the OHL had a positive impact on Matthews current offensive game.

His offensive game is fine he played with a left winger as his center so he became a playmaker

Brady is like stone he can make plays or score goals depending on his role and linemates

NHL.com had predraft coverage.. in it they showed Keith, Brady and Matthew sitting behind Dahlin.. Keith asked "Hey Rasmus where do you think you will be picked" the kids thought it was the funniest thing ever .. I dont think Dahlin got it though

Kind of a dad joke lol

The worst thing we can do is start penciling him in as a future 1st liner. That's not fair to Brady. Call him a middle 6 guy, with a solid bet to be a 2nd line player. If he exceeds that a few years down the road...hot damn. But let's try to stay realistic. We don't need another if you like Drew Doughty, you'll love Cody Ceci type of hype to screw up expectations.

Let Brady develop for a year in either the NCAA or London. If he wants to play that power forward, abrasive game in the NHL, he needs a good 15+ pounds of additional muscle on his frame. And he needs a lot more puck time, to polish those hands and get a taste of being THE guy on a team for awhile.

He has never really scored goals.

I’m not sure where this idea is coming from.

He did with his time at the USDP and he had something like 3 goals in 7 games at the wjc which isn't bad. He is a complete guy who can finish and make plays he isn't a pure sniper or pure playmaker
