If we pull it together and go on another run only to lose to the god damn Kings again in the finals I might die.

I was hoping that somebody might have heard or read about this somewhere to confirm if he actually said that about us at all . I did not watch any early morning TSN shows or SPortsnet this AM....I was running late nor do I have Twitter ....was all 2nd hand info for me.

Outside of the Caps....we still could beat anybody with a few Rangers firing on all cylinders and that would not take much....just a couple of guys to pick up the pace and we are good to go . If Ron MacLean did say it...he certainly has faith in our club .

I actually saw multiple reporters post on twitter that this was said by MacLean on the radio.

I still believe in this team, I posted a few days ago about that. That's why people wanting to trade Nash and half the team and completely rebuild, while Henrik is still close to his prime, make me shake my head.

This team is 2-3 moves from being a firm contender. I'd rather make those moves and continue to go for it while Hank is still our #1. He's done so much for the franchise and been so good his whole career, I don't want them to blow it up while he's still our goalie. They owe it to him at the very least, to go for it while they can.

Trade Girardi or Staal. Play McIlrath in the top 4. Get PMD to replace Boyle+Yandles/re-sign Yandle. Get a top 6 winger.

Hell, 2 of those issues will be automatically fixed after the season (Boyle retiring, Buchnevich filling top 6 void). And trading 1 of Girari or Staal actually accomplishes more than just cap space: get players who fit system, wake up call to current team. Staal and G both wear letters and are life ling Rangers and them being shipped out of town would send the message than nobody is safe. Maybe Kreider will skate a little harder knowing that.

For as negative as the fans are, this team is closer to competing than they are rebuilding.

As much as I agree with you that only a few moves can greatly improve our team, there has been no evidence to suggest that those moves fit with the current vision of our teams management.

I'm not trying to justify blowing the team up, and IMO that would be the worst possible scenario.

My biggest fear is that we will ALWAYS be just a few moves away.

What are the general thoughts on this team? I don't really get a chance to keep up with the Rangers much since going to college, usually I was able to just from watching them the days the Devils weren't on.

Do you guys still feel like their a cup contending team this year or is that window close to closing? I remember thinking last year during the ECF final that it might be one of the last chances for the Rangers to win. They've had some great success in the last few years but it seemed like age-wise and cap-wise time was running out, although you guys will probably have more insight into that. As much as we hate our rivals, it's always fun when they're doing good -- but not too good -- because it makes the games, and potentially playoff series, between us all that more interesting.

Also, didn't seem like you guys had a general team thread so I didn't know where else to put this.

I guarantee an Eichel snipe of the most epic kind. Most likely on some odd man rush, or complete missed assignment from 10 feet out.

Personally I think their window closed last season. The cap situation essentially makes it all but impossible to retool this team quickly, the team lacks depth in NY and Hartford and we have no picks. So essentially I think we will see a slow slide back to where the rangers were prior to Henrik coming in. as he gets older he will no longer be able to will the team in to the playoffs.

As much as it sucks to say, unless some serious changes are made I just don't see it. They maybe able to eek out a special season in the near future but not with AVs system and this personnel.

Its the end result of a GM well past his prime attempting to win another one before he retired. he didn't and the team will continue to suffer for it.

Theres just not a whole lot for Gorton to work with and he was also instrumental in paying both Staal and Girardi compounding the problem

They suck.

They could have been a contender for longer but management has made baffling decisions regarding their/best worst players, handicapping themselves for the foreseeable future.

It's going to take a miracle for Gorton to change things significantly enough to keep this team a legitimate 'Cup threat.

I don't agree with the bolded because the Rangers certainly had teams that could win the cup in 2011-12, 2013-14, and 2014-15. A bounce or two here or there and everything he would've done would be worth it. Now that they were unsuccessful, I'm not sure it's fair to look at it in hindsight like that. It's a bit different if the team is clearly going down and a GM just keeps adding and doesn't look to retool.

That is what I thought. I remembering thinking last year that it might end up being the Rangers last chance. They had a dominant run but it seemed like time and money wise the team was running out of time. From what I've seen, it seems like the best option would be a retool, but at the same time, that could either work well or backfire tremendously. With Lundqvist getting up there in age, even though goaltenders can maintain a high level later into their careers (i.e. Roloson, Marty), it's likely not the risk their going to take. In a way, the Devils were in a similar position from 2008-2012 on whether to retool or try to keep contending with Marty. They chose the latter and paid for it the last few years.

Be curious to see what happens. Sather somehow always managed to get rid of his mistakes and not let it hinder the future, but I guess it remains to be seen what Gorton does.

This is why I don't hold him in anywhere near the same regard as a lot of other posters. He was complicit in a lot of real bonehead moves.

We would be fine had we used the money to sign Boyle and used it towards resigning Stralman. Rather than resigning Dan Girardi, or more specifically Marc Staal, we would have the funds available to resign Keith Yandle who is our 2nd best defenseman and we are now forced to trade him.

How come people never factor in the thought that maybe Stralman didn't want to stay in NY? It's always "Management didn't do enough to keep him, this is completely their fault". It takes two to tango. Of course we don't know exactly what happened, but by all accounts, they gave him comparable offers to what he gets now in TB. It's time to move on.

At any rate, this game has letdown written all over it. Rising, young, hungry team. Rangers playing against a former player. Can't say I'm all too excited to watch, other than getting to see Eichel inevitably rip us a new one.

At times they look like they're really turning it on and then they do **** like they did yesterday. No consistency.

my optimistic view is that this is one of those 'catches up with you seasons' but next year can be more like the last 3-4
look at LA last year, and how they bounced back this year. they mde a couple changes, Lucic in, Stoll, Williams, Richards out, but much the same core

that said, i have little faith left for a deep spring run this season,
too inconsistent, too sloppy, not enough guys improved,
and the coach is coaching like he needs his meds adjusted

as long as they don't sell prospects or high picks for 30 year olds,
i can take it in stride

We do know almost exactly what happened and people here continue to bury their heads in the sand. I really do not want to dredge up this same conversation for the 1 dillionth time, but Stralman absolutely 100% did want to stay and we've even had Swedish posters come on this board who were close to the situation confirm that. Someone here keeps peddling the lie that Stralman's wife did not like NY which is total BS. Management completely, and totally ****ed up the Stralman situation. It's 10000000% on them that he is not a Ranger.
