I would say that the Rangers are venturing into a zone....of danger.
The spectacular egg we laid against Ottawa will look like a Robin's egg if we manage to embarrass ourselves tonight. Buffalo has some good pieces on both ends. Really like where they're headed, but they shouldn't be capable of embarrassing the Rangers just yet.
Rangers should be fine if you don't let ROR, Eichel, and/or Ristolainen go off. Sabres have poor secondary/tertiary scoring, and as a whole, haven't scored an ES goal in the last ten periods, just 3 PPG. A good omen would be breaking Buffalo's PK streak as they've killed off 19 straight, while the bad omens would obviously be multi-point games from the previously mentioned three, penalty trouble, or some uncharacteristic depth scoring from Buffalo. The offense weighs heavily on those three to create it, so stymie that and it should mean two points. That's how many Sabres games play out these days, as they look considerably better but have a long climb up from where they were the past two years. Which goalie starts tonight is really inconsequential as both have done enough to get wins, but more often than not, don't get enough goal support making wins more challenging or Johnson lets in something that reminds you why he's only a backup:
"Chad Johnson has appeared in 18 games since the beginning of November, logging a 9-6-2 record with a .936 save percentage and a 1.98 goals-against average during that stretch. In three games since returning from a high ankle sprain that sidelined him for 39 games, Robin Lehner has logged a .936 save percentage and a 2.36 goals-against average."
