I thought Zucker was going to flourish here because in Minny he scored most of his goals on the PP in front of the net like a discount Hornqvist. He has never had a chance to play that role on our PP here, no matter how many injuries of guys above him happen. The Geno/Zuck is obvious it doesn't work. At this point you have to think that Sid has made it known he doesn't want to play with Zucker like he did with Horny. They need to just trade the guy before he doesn't have any value.

If you go to every team page on here you will see every single fan base complain that their coach does not play enough young players. Seriously, go look. Every game that Zohorna isn't playing in the top 9 I die a little inside but that's how it goes. That's one of the biggest gripes I see on here about him. It doesn't matter who you replace him with, the majority of coaches are going to play a Brian Boyle over Drew O'Conner.

Yeah I think it's absolutely a fair point that it's endemic amongst NHL coaching, in general. No doubt. They all have pets and with very few exceptions they are vets who have "paid their dues" even if they might as well be playing with their sticks upside down. If anything Sullivan is probably one of the better guys league-wide when it comes to playing some younger talent. Weird as that might sound to some.

It all plays into why I kind of loathe NHL coaching and think it only brings the sport down. I just don't feel that this sport needs to be Harrison Bergeron'd with some dorks in ties. It's weird to me that people get so worked up over players actually like... trying things. That's entertainment to me, ya know? What else are we here for? And coaches hate that kind of stuff or simply tolerate it if they must. No fun.

I don't know if Sid really makes demands about his linemates TBH. I'm sure he has preferences, of course. I realize with a legend like him that it's a weird position to be in as a coach but again... what are we paying these guys for, then? Gotta make the best decisions for the entire team/lineup.

I still have no idea WTF was going on that season but he sure wasn't HELPING that's for sure.

JR came in like a lion. Mustache boy Willie Desjardins chose Vancouver over us so JR just googled hockey coaches and picked a guy. Then we had to play with 5 D for the last month of the season because he forgot the NHL had a cap. Fun times.

Coaching has a huge impact on games. A well coached average team, playing their system perfectly, will beat a high skilled team, playing a disjointed system.

Playoffs are a perfect example of that. Look at all the good teams that have been swept the last few years.

Oh yeah... there were some big roster problems and of course the ever-present injury issues, as well. Like... Scuderi derping around getting way too many minutes just to back into his own goaltender slowly every game was helping nobody. Being shorthanded like you pointed out due to cap mismanagement. Stuff like that. As always it's more than just one thing. But I'm not trying to defend Johnston. He was... uh... let's just say "very uninspiring."

Sounds suspiciously like something a coach would say.
