Glad they called up Puustinen to have him watch Simon from the box. Hopefully this will give him a good idea of what it takes to secure a spot with the big boys.

Murray has looked like his old self since returning from his AHL stint. I'm happy for him! Hopefully we'll see a good goalie duel tonight...and Sid getting #500 of course.

Sid's gonna get #500 over Murray's glove for old times sake.

Then MM will remove his helmet with a tear rolling down his cheek start slow clapping for Sid. And we all rejoice.

Just hope we can get the two points and get out of there without sustaining injury.

Maybe be a bit better at the AHL level first? While I'm sure he intrigues you I'm not so sure he's NHL material. Maybe, but most likely not. Being the best among the mediocre there isn't in and of itself saying much.

I'm no Simon fanboy, but, frankly, none of the Pens' forward prospects in the AHL look like they're going to be world-beaters, or even close to it. I'm not foaming at the mouth that Simon's getting ice time over them.

We will never find out while he sits in the press box during games. It’s too bad we have so many talented forwards playing right now that he can’t crack a roster spot….oh wait, we don’t.

No one is saying any of these guys will be world beaters, but maybe, just maybe, they will be better than the three stooges that play every night.

Dumbass Sully did the same crap last season, only trying young guys when he had to due to injuries. Guess what, Gaudreau and Z never would have played a game last year if not for a plethora of injuries.

We need to stop letting him play junior GM in the off season because 1. he goes after terrible players and 2. plays the turds all year.

What is the harm with sitting Simon, ZAR or Boyle?

Thinking that this guy is the answer seems kinda crazy to me. He's not the 2hd coming of Jari Kurri, ok. He might not even be the 2hd coming of Risto Kurkinen.

I actually like Simon and thought he'd be a good compliment to Boyle's sluggishness, but his play as of late has been subpar.
It should be a no brainer that coaches swap out 4th liners that have stretches of poor play. Same goes for your 5/6 Dmen.

Well, yeah. That's how contract limits, waivers, and the salary cap work.

Sully (and his fanboys) "logic": A young player who is anything other than a complete ZAR-type plug** is "wasted" on the 4th line; the 3rd line (with ZAR) is the greatest defensive line in NHL history and cannot be altered except by injury/illness; therefore in order for that young player to get into the lineup it must be in a top-6 role immediately, and Sully sure as hell ain't putting some unproven kid in the top 6 for even a shift unless the entire team gets COVID all at once.

Therefore that player never gets a chance at all -- because his skills and style of play are said to be unsuitable for the 4th line, and he's too unproven for any more prominent role than that, so.... go sit in the press box kid, enjoy the buffet, and watch Dominik "Don't worry, he was only signed for WBS this year!" Simon play.

** Edit: or a player you're trying to MAKE into a ZAR-type plug (Zohorna, DOC), even though the player very well could show more skill than that if used properly and given sufficient time and opportunity to develop. Sam Lafferty really is a ZAR-type plug, so his leash wasn't quite as short at first -- until he showed signs of becoming a physical player & agitator, and we sure don't want any of THAT around here.

my suggestion for Puusy is to put him with ERod on L3 tonight and see how it goes…take Simon out and move Zohorna to L4 …bingo, no need for the kid to play 6 minutes on L4…he should get 12-13 minutes with ERod…and this won’t affect the PK as Simon doesn’t do it

We've never been a team that really gave the youth in the AHL many chances. You can call it philosophy, stupidity, whatever. Than again we've never really had world beaters down there

I get the want in seeing some of these guys up but it's not like they are tearing it up and deserve a crack ( I know not many of our bottom tears it up either). I'm kind of impartial either way.....you don't know what you have until you actually see it in the big club but you also want these guys to develop their game the right way and earn their keep.

Regardless I haven't seen anyone down there yet the makes me say" we gotta see him up here now with the big club" so really its not something I dwell on much

Sullivan just raved about Puustinen and they brought him up with Geno in Covid protocols …why, to give him a nacho eating award? Imo, it’s ridiculous…if you don’t think he’s ready, then leave him playing in Wilkes…they did the same to Zohorna until the guy actually got in there and played and showed he could play…Puusy has two years in a professional league, just like Zohorna did…play him…no harm

Like I said, I am impartial either way but yes I get bringing the guy up just to sit is a little odd. Sully has always done it that way though from what I recall?

Maybe Sully thinks its an honor to sit in the press box and take it all in:laugh: IDK

I'm sure he appreciated the NHL paycheque.

There is SOMETHING to be said for even just taking practice with the NHL team for a few days.

But yeah in the end I'd rather he just be playing big minutes in a lower league.

So, the fan boys defend Sully because it’s bad for Puus’ development to play 6 minutes a night, but somehow it’s okay for him to not play at all?

I think he does think it’s a great first step for a younger player to get in a few practices with the big club lol…it’s ridiculous…this guy’s a professional and has played in a professional league…treat him as such…he’s not some 17 year old you picked off a beer league truck…there are many 22 year olds playing regular minutes for actual NHL clubs, Sully…lol

Murray, as I’ve already said, is going to be on a mission to stone the Pens and win this game…he will not give up more than one goal and the Pens will lose…bookmark this comment!
