Maybe too much is expected from a not very skilled player like Cally.

Ehhh, I don't know. I mean, I was expecting him to be at least as good as he was last year. For the most part he hasn't been. He has been pretty inconsistent thus far.

Same here, but the second he scores a goal all you hear is "LOL WHOS THE 3RD LINE PLAYER NOW!?!"

He can be a 2nd liner but he needs to get back to his simplified game. Hit, get to the dirty areas and get in front to score.

Hey, you won't hear me defending Hank's performance tonight, but once again they are completely incapable of bailing him out.

The Hang-Man wears a hood and his name is 2+ Goal leads.

Thank you. And I fully admit that the first goal was debatable. It can go either way. I personally feel he should have saved it, some don't.

I fail to see the logic of Lundqvist being immune from criticism from some here. People are just so blinded by hate for Torts, Richards, etc. that all of a sudden they lose focus of the fact that this was a pretty damn good game for us (save for Callahan and Lundqvist) and we just ran into a goalie that straight up beat us. It happens. That's what's both fun and maddening about hockey. It happens at the highest level and it happens during peewees.

I think it's tough to criticize him for that second goal as it was a power play.

At the same time he made a few saves that keep them in this game and gave them a chance.

We played a good game, but again they need to find a way to win that game. No moral victories in a game this big against a team this bad.

The extent that people go to excuse goals given up by lundqvist is hillarious. Everyone here knows Lundqvist is great, but guess what? Mr all world veznia bla bla bla goalie gave up 2 goals on the first 10 shots in the biggest game of the year. Should the Rangers have finished and scored more than 2? absolutely. But you can't act like Lundqvist is the greatest of all time and then not expect him to make big saves in big games.

I bet Lundqvist is not happy with his own performance tonight. He is own toughest critic. First goal might be tough but it's one Hank saves when he's in the zone. Ditto for the second.

The Rangers played well enough to win and have played better since the trade deadline. The Rangers have found ways to win. Hasn't always been pretty but they have. And that's what is important this time of year. Their own fate is still in their hands. People rooting for Rangers to lose to get Torts fired? Really?

Exactly. I fully agree with that. I take no moral victory at all in this game like I did when we got beat by Pitt after we dominated them and Fleury played lights out.

I often let Callahan's horrible decision making (in every single zone) slide because he was out there busting his ass, hitting everything that moved and blocking shot after shot. He would also backcheck hard enough that he could make up for his mistakes (which he actually did once tonight).

He simply hasn't done the things that made him an "all-star grinder" in the past, and he's been easily this years most disappointing player.

Yeah, I have no idea. I don't get it with him. I would accept a lower level of play from the "highs" of his game if he brought a consistent game every night.

i disagree when you say "he makes saves like those all the time." hank lets in deflections all the time. they're his weakness. but deflections aren't really easy to stop.

Oh boy, here comes the "Callahan is a 3rd liner" parade. I didn't know 29 goal scorers play on the 3rd line. Is he playing with Step? :sarcasm:

Cally has struggled this year for sure and Stepan deserved the Extra Effort Award but Cally not great in big games? If anything, his history is mixed. I seem to remember him being our best player in games 5 and 6 vs NJD last year, a strong game 7 vs OTT amongst others.

I really don't understand the fascination with his post game comments though. That's just me though.
