Nice how the NHL Draft thread has him winning the Calder.

He’s going to make the AHL look like a joke

Offensively he may, that is only a fraction of the game though. His strength on the puck needs to improve or his stick technique. If you can’t get the puck back below the hash marks then you will never really be counted on at the NHL level. I think stick technique will improve.

I gotta feeling he is better than luke. Seems to have a huge IQ
They are different and both can be effective. Casey will never go end to end but he also likely doesn’t get caught out of position as easily. Both are talented but both have elements to work on .

Pretty impressive stuff from Casey this year.

We have a pretty significant amount of depth at RD. We can probably be patient this year and let Casey and Nemec spend the year in Utica.

One could certainly be.a major trade chip, though not sure there is a trade out there that makes sense. Probably a comparable young forward would need to come back.

Really wonder how Nemec is doing in Utica right now.
ive caught snippets of games here and there and as goofy as it may sound i think ive liked nemo's overall play a little better

casey's offensive zone presence is the best aspect of either of their games right now, we're talking legitimate star level play, but i think the D zone is still more of a work in progress. the biggest thing is hes small and feels small defensively. thats not to say hes playing small. to the contrary, hes actually decently fiesty and willing to initiate contact, hes just getting ovepowered and taken out of plays in the process. both can get cute on the puck but i think ive seen casey get surprised by high intensity forechecking more

nemo is more effective with tie ups and turning quick strips into counter attacks. the no panic thing can be a detriment at times, but defenisvely i think it helps him make a really composed breakout pass under pressure. he plays bizarrely high up on the pk at times, but beyond that ive generally liked his positional game more

casey is a dynamic offensive talent who excels on the pp, nemo is just a really good support piece offensively. i think the latters production is hurt more (much more) by the lack of finishing talent up front because hes primarily facilitating play a lot of the time and focusing on getting pucks up to players in transition whereas casey has been a bit more do it himself and is basically gift wrapping free goals to these forwards on the man advantage. again, not comprehensive viewings by any means, just offering input

You are a gift to our little Devils board community. I always look forward to your insights and updates on players I don’t get a chance to see. Thank you so much, kind sir!!

caught periods 2 and 3 tonight. thought he was great. tight to the net front, didnt let play get behind him as much. if it did, his defensive stick was quick to get a touch on the puck. lacks the natural recoverability of a luke hughes or someone, so those instant reactions and ajdustments to speed are necessary. only caught by surprise once or twice

thought he focused even more on getting pucks off quickly under pressure, which i liked since there werent as many opportunities for him to get boxed in. again, the physical play at his size is impressive, he very much holds his own in this regard, but depending on who hes up against, he can still feel small and get overpowered. physical play seems to shine more against the rush since his timing/manipulation are so good for closing in on attackers

great passing game per usual. smart reads on breakouts, wasnt afraid to delay or circle back. good activations, great puck protection. extended carries felt dangerous. elusive. all the usual goodness here. deployment felt lighter but i didnt see anything in the game that wouldve warranted it (maybe just with desimone back? only 1 pp, too). exciting player, still goofy how much of utica's attack seems to run through him when hes on the ice. cant wait for his jersey to arrive lol

also, nemo thread was locked (?) so i dont wanna derail this but just a quick commentary since ive seen some...scathing reviews of the player and wanted to verify my own observations. seemed a bit more lax than what i saw last time. still largely good with his stick play/tie ups, but lazy on body play. pace was weird. not really high, which is standard for him, but had a few poke attempts/neutral zone step ups that were quick and well timed (particularly with the goalie pulled). attempted a couple home run passes that he probably shouldnt have. way better when he focused on turning quick strips into short range passes to start breakouts. i dont see the characterization that he only cares about offense or has some huge attitude problem; rather, i think hes coasting a bit and needs to put his head down and get back to work
