He's OK. You can see and appreciate the effort so he's easy to like. But the reality is that Malkin can't carry two complimentary/tweener type guys anymore. He needs a Guentzel. I've been saying it for years and everyone rolls their eyes and goes on some screed about how the team can't afford that but that's where we are.

That's why our team looks like shit offensively when Sid/Geno aren't on their "A" game. We don't have enough play driving wingers to compensate.

No no no... they need more third liners and goaltenders. That's the entire problem.

Serious question: when is the last time this team's offense looked potent in a game where both Sid and Geno were crap? I know we've probably scraped out a close 2-1 game because of good goaltending when those two aren't good, but when's the last time the offense looked actually dominant when those two aren't at their absolute best?

This offense relies way too much on two 35/36 year olds to BE the offense. If they're average or below, we score 1 or less.

Absolutely. And that has largely been the case for seasons, now. When GCR isn't on one of their heaters this team's offense is pathetic. But somehow it's become a bottom six/goaltending conversation in true Pens fan fashion.

Yeah, I forgot about Jake stinking it up. Top 6 should be:

Zucker - Crosby - Rakell
Guentzel - Malkin - Rust

...if they insist on keeping those wings in the top 6.

I'd agree but I'd flip Rust down to L3 and try Kap out on L2.

That might bug some eyes out but I mean... maybe we're just used to this team never trying f***-all

I mean... if you want a second line that can do f***-all aside from barely hold serve and/or come out the end of the night a -1 and maybe have some nice moral victory fancy numbers or something.
He needs a P.Kane…let’s get him in here lol…

I'm pretty sure there was at least one game at the start of last season with Carter the #1C and ERod the #2C where they offensively looked better than their opponent...I mean I don't remember it...but it had to have happened at least once right?

If I were Hextall, I'd look to trade Rust like Brad Pitt traded the guy on Moneyball because the Manager kept playing him against Billy Beane's (Pitt) wishes.
Except that part was fictionalized and the manger was actually supportive of what Beane was doing. If you don't have a GM and coach aligned to the point the GM has to work around him then it's time for one of them to move on.

I mean most teams only have 3 play driving forwards IMO.
I'm not necessarily talking about elite forwards. I'm talking about forwards who are relatively good puck carriers/playmakers who can set up their linemates for a decent amount of chances.

Our only guy outside of Sid/Geno that's got pretty decent playmaking ability is Jake. Rust's not a playmaker, Zucker's not a playmaker, and while I like his game, Rakell's not a guy who'll carry the puck and make multiple sweet feeds per game.

You look at the Jets, who we just recently played, and you have Scheifele, Wheeler, Ehlers and Connor, who are all capable of creating offense. You have Dubois who is also pretty good at it.

You look at the Leafs with Matthews, Marner, Tavares and Nylander. Then even in their bottom six a guy like Kerfoot is good at carrying the puck and passing (he's got a muffin shot, however).

If Scheifele and Wheeler have bad games, they're still dangerous because of the other three. If Matthews and Tavares are quiet, you still have Marner and/or Nylander creating chances.

We don't really have that second layer of offense where if Sid/Geno are off their game, you can rely on someone else to still make the Pens' offense dangerous. No, if Sid/Geno are terrible in a game you know we're getting 1 goal or less and generating next to nothing.

Who’s our next Kessel?

These Morons trying to sell the narrative that they played well against the Canes? Lol. It truly is turning into another Bylsma situatio.
