but everyone sucks 5v5.

It's a system and coaching issue IMO.

Yet the team still has one of the best records in the league and wins almost every time they score more than 1. Yes, there’s other issues to work out, but if even 2 of the 5 mentioned young forwards were even remotely impact players, imagine how much better we’d be than the already exceptional record we have.

I’m getting to the point where I honestly don’t give a shit what the potential upside of Kakko, Laf, etc. is. Kreider is peaking despite getting his pay day. Zib is frustrating at times but still putting up elite points along with Bread. Fox is the best Dman in the league. Shesty is the best goalie in the league. I’d rather deal one of these kids and go for it while we can afford all of these guys than squander proven talent in Shesterkin and Fox for “potential” in Lafreniere.

Igor in goal doesn't change this outcome. Maybe we're only down 4-1.

Ridiculous post. The team is different when Igor is in there. He is the best goalie in the world and he also helps the breakout with his stickhandling. Totally unacceptable he's not playing in this game. And everyone who bitches and moans all the time about the team not being as good as their records "just because the goalie is saving them." Well that's the benefit you have when you have the best goalie in the world. Everyone should know that by now.

We might be getting pummeled still with Igor in net, but the fact is we'll never know what would have happened because Gallant thinks he's some f***ing genius out there playing chess.

3 games in 4 days. Should end up with 4 of 6 points. He’s not dumb. He goes Shesty and probably still lose this game and then tomorrow is a cluster. It’s the regular season.

Georgiev should be able to handle Arizona. You don't play Georgiev because Shesty would lose regardless. That's not having any faith in your team. Granted the team has been abysmal, I don't care what the score will be this is the worst game of the season. It's like they didn't know the Canes were a strong forechecking team.

yep

why he did this I don’t know but he deliberately sat his best player for this match up and it deservedly blew up in his face

Game is no different with Shesterkin.

Fans need to accept the Hurricanes are on another planet.

Shesterkin doesn't fix that, especially with this defense.

The fourth goal Georgiev stopped the first shot, second shot, and no one was able to get to the player before the third shot. Thats bad defense. The fifth one the Hurricanes were able to sneak between four Ranger players, get the pass, and pick their shot.

I 100% agree Shesterkin should have started, but even if he is playing well for his standards, this game is 3-1 Hurricanes and they're still down by several goals.

Guys like Hunt aren't the reason they're losing this game. The whole team is behind the eight ball tonight. Tilted ice surface, as they used to say.

I think calling my point stupid is extremely unfair. I specifically said it’s not his play that’s the problem. It’s the mental stuff that comes along with starting him. Everyone in that locker room knows that Shesterkin is their mvp. They also know Carolina is one of the best teams in the league. You fall behind a couple goals to that team and you’re getting outplayed AND your best player is on the bench? That’s not good for confidence and the mental side of it.

They have two good goalies, i dont think this has anything to do with it.

On one hand, NYR are still young and will still see the playoffs this season. The sun rises tomorrow.

On the other hand, f***ing yikes.

You are correct but why are some of the young regressing? The ones that are supposed to be franchise altering players?

I hate to be that guy, because we’re still preaching patience (out of fear), but if either of Laf/Kakko (let alone both) were playing anywhere near 90% of 1/2 picks in the past two decades, we’d probably actually be top 5 favorites this season. They’re both identical in impact to f***ing McKegg so… not to mention Chytil is like a 5th year pro who is likely going to have less of a career than Ales Kotalik, Lias was an absolute atrocity and Kravtsov is in the KHL again. We’re 0/5 on forward prospects, and yes there is still time, but if we were even 2/5 on them we’d be genuine contenders.

Sure, but Gallant wants to see McKegg hockey. If the kids are soft defensively they will get benched. If they play defense it's wHeRe's tHe OfFeNse? The root problem is the wonky 5v5 system, even the big boi's, the core of the team, create nothing 5v5 but they feast on the PP and against weak teams that give them space.

Igor doesn't change the outcome of the game. But why move Kakko off line 2 when they were dominating? Then try and send a message to him because of YOUR mistake. How does Barron not stick around after his performance? Maybe winning a faceoff could help? Why can't we have Jones or Nils with Schneider? Nils last game he was fantastic. Calling for the puck on the PP. Putting those shots on goal. Then he's gone. But Nemeth remains. It's insanity.

This game was lost when Gallant named Georgiev the starter. Not that he’s losing the game solely on his own or anything, but this team is mentally weak tonight. They look like a bunch of guys who know they’re outclassed and know they’re without their best player.

I firmly believe it's this, just couldn't word it right. They look like a different team, depending who is in net.

We have no idea what would have happened if Shesterkin started. The team might be playing drastically differently. You don't just copy and paste the goalie and get the same performance.

This is ridiculous. Georgiev has been playing extremely well and Arizona is garbage. Tomorrow should be a win regardless of the goalie. Shesterkin should have been playing tonight.

but that's what I'm saying... no one is good 5v5.

You can't put the onus on the kids when no one is good 5v5. The entire team is an embarrassment 5v5. We could switch teams and it'd be the same outcome.

The inconvenient truth, it's a coaching issue..... still.

If you say so. I guess we're watching different games. :dunno:

The reason we're losing is because Carolina is a good team. They were where we are now when we played them in the bubble. Its gonna take time to get there.
