Brutal news. Can't catch a break
This is why I wonder how much of an appetite NHL teams have for events like this outside of the Olympics every four years. Hockey is a great game played at the highest level, but that comes with a physical cost. I hope the U.S. can muster up some intestinal forward Thursday. It's going to be a tough game to win. Maybe Binnington will throw us a bone....

I don’t think hands matter all that much in terms of rules and I think it’s just next man up…

Maybe a hot take but I think Sanderson is just as good if not better than McAvoy anyway…. I liked his game a lot last night in a night of not a lot of great games
Sanderson may be better than McAvoy in a year, but right now I still take McAvoy
due to his physicality. Sanderson won't impact the game in his own end nearly as much, just ask McDavid.

hughes and Matthews are both very very disappointing rn. getting carried by guentzel isn't a great look for them
Matthews has been very good defensively, but I don't like him as a facilitator on his line. That's why I was optimistic with Hughes flanking him, but Hughes probably needs to center his own line. Matthews needs a playmaking winger. I would have tried him with Matthew Tkachuk. In hindsight I probably would have named Kane to the team as well. I think he would have paired nicely with Matthews.

Maybe Im alone here — but Id be kind of pissed off if I were a fan of any of the teams for injured players. Imagine being in the thick of a playoff run and your top guy gets battered and banged up or misses significant time because he got hurt at the "4 nations" tournament? I mean — what's more important? A Stanley Cup or a half-assed 4 nations tournament that is leaving off some pretty strong teams....

I guess if I am going to risk it, Id want it for the olympics, not some contrived "4-nations" nonsense.

I think there is definitely some merit to this train of thought.

Yeah, I've been a bit disappointed with both players. A lot of running around and not accomplishing much. I think Hughes is better suited as a center (3rd line).
Team USA needs to use Connor like we did Hull in 96. He should be our rifleman. Focus on getting him one timers. He is arguably the best pure goal scorer we have, put him in that position to produce.

Hughes is just doing what a lot of younger guys do at this level. Trying to do too much instead of just keeping it simple. We need these 2 more than ever Thu to actually sustain in zone pressure.

No Kane or Gaudreau, those guys setup the in zone offense...Hughes has to be the guy to do that for us now.
