You think he's got the value Hagel did?

I don't know what kind of Marvel alternate timeline You live in but it's time to return to the main timeline
Hagel who put up 37 pts in 55 games and had no prior history of producing? Yup.

The only reason Hagel had that value was because Chicago had no reason to trade him unless it was too good to be true. It's similar with Kesselring in Utah.

1. Good grief!!!

2. Savoie? I'd consider it.

Two of these players are pure rentals in my book (Vejmelka and Bjugstad)

Kesselring is a 5-6 guy who adds depth and quality to the right side on defense, He's cheap too. I like him but not at multiple 1sts and multiple prospects. That seems a tad high, no?
I and many others find it hard to value players like Kesselring. I never feel confident in knowing if I'm close or not to value when clubs view these RFA types so differently.

The Avs got Devon Toews for two low 2nd round picks. In hindsight, an absurd underpayment. I think teams are wiser today than yesterday in terms of valuing their guys in the position Toews was with the NYI.

Yup, ditto.

Hell of a trade for the Avalanche.

Kesselring was one of the Oilers dumbest trades. It was completely unnecessary

I thought they should’ve gone for Korpisalo that year instead. He played pretty good against the Oilers in the playoffs. McDrai would probably have a Cup if they pulled off the move…and probably Kesselring.

And even though Korpi sucked the next season…he was swapped for Ullmark…

I didn't say this year, I said as a player. Nurse's defense was a pretty big factor in Edmonton losing the cup last year and it's been multiple years where he's been inconsistent at best. I don't think Kesselring is better now than Nurse was at his peak, but I do think he's a better player at the moment- if Nurse continues to play like he has and Kesselring doesn't continue to improve by Leaps and bounds it's a lot closer. It's close in general anyways. I wouldn't bet on Kesselring continuing to improve but I also wouldn't bet on Nurse continuing to play like he has for 3-5 more years. That makes Kesselring more valuable due to age and contract.

And Kesselrings prime is just happening now, how long it lasts no one knows but there's a good chance that it could last for 8 years as that's usually when D-men start declining and Kesselring is big and doesn't play a style of game that will deteriorate or that relies on skating. Kesselring isn't a mid level NHL player at this point. Whether he stays on Utah or not IDK, but on many teams he'd be a top 4 d-man and arguably should be on Utah, and he has the chance to push to be a #1D-man on other teams or potentially Utah.
I agree with most of what you are saying, but I don't think Kesselring will ever be a 1D, but neither will Nurse. You take everything into consideration such as age, salary etc. I believe Kesselring is the much more valuable player. I bet Edmonton would trade Nurse for Kesselring in a heartbeat.

There is no way the Oilers would trade Nurse for Kesselring at this time. Nurse has a very important role on a team hoping to win. Nurse has actually been very good this year.

They absolutely would not. Nurse is a 2/3 D who has spent the last 5 years anchoring pairs with bottom pair D. This year, his pairs have all looked great, including when he has had to play with guys who should be #7 defensemen on playoff teams. Nurse is far more important to the Oilers than Kesselring would be. Kesselring would be a fine #4 to play beside Nurse, as has been covered in these discussions, but he is in no way better or more valuable to the respective teams who have them.
