Surprised to see people pushing for Carlsson and not Eklund. Eklund has played his way on to this roster, Carlsson IMO has played his way off it.

Yeah its weird

He won't be. Handedness will only matter if it's between players of similar quality. They won't select a much lesser player because he's an RHS.

The d-core at Worlds could be fun, though, with a selection of these youngish dmen:

Broberg
Edvinsson
Sandin
Liljegren
Brännström
Andrae
Salomonsson
ASP

Also idk why people keep pairing Hedman & EK65. Hedman isn't the beacon of defense he once was.
There is also Albert Johansson and Victor Söderström

Perhaps even Helge Grans

Three points in his last three games for Timothy Liljegren now (and 3 goals in last 9 games).

It took him 6 games or so to adjust to his new team, but he’s done it now and is only just entering his prime years.

It would be shortsighted to not even consider a player with Liljegren’s elite tools, Sweden needs to keep one eye on the Olympics with this Four Nations tournament, they are going to need the next generation to step up for 2026 if they want a chance at gold.

Would be great to see both Gustavsson and Liljegren make it. I believe in both guys for sure.

Liljegren did a great job for us at the World Championships 2 years ago. He's a much better player now.
Gustavsson and Liljegren is not even close to making this team.

all of these guys are ahead of them;

Gustav Forsling
Erik Karlsson
Victor Hedman
Rasmus Dahlin
Jonas Brodin
Rasmus Andersson
Mattias Ekholm

Hampus Lindholm

I had to draw a line somewhere. But has been fun to see Grans getting a shot with the Flyers after floundering a bit in the AHL after his first season (looking like a coaching thing?) and putting in 2 fantastic games in there.

If he keeps it up then great, I personally would love if specifically Liljegren becomes a true top pair dman.

The competition for a spot at the Olympics will be very tough, as it should be. Broberg's chances are very slim for the 4 nations, so that should paint a picture on Liljegren's chances.

Rather have Jesper Boqvist and Mattias Janmark than Stenlund.

Stenlund for smartness, large stature (98kg!) and talented boxplay. Boqvist is too small, I believe and Janmark has small upside only. Maybe Raymond can do some boxplay as well. Make top players mad. But probably Elias Lindholm can be back in time.

I think going to the Worlds last year massively helped Brodins chances. Hallam might be the kind of coach that loves his guys.

So Hedman, Karlsson, Forsling, Brodin. Who are the last 3? I'd have to assume Dahlin is one of them. Ekholm, Andersson, H. Lindholm and Adam Larsson fighting for the final two spots I'd imagine. Or will we see someone out of the left field?

Andersson is also a safe lock. So question is the last spot. Ekholm/Lindholm is the safe bet. Don't see Larsson getting in.

I am pretty sure Filip Gustavsson is a lock to make the team, and none of the players on your list are goaltenders so it doesn't refute that point.

Liljegren's case is trickier, since he just got out of some tough circumstances in Toronto but he is flourishing in San Jose with some elite play of late, however the sample size is not big yet and decisions for 2025 will need to be made soon. Some of the players on your list are bad (Sandin) or old (Ekholm), Liljegren will be a better choice come 2026 for not only those reasons, but also because he is a rare RHD and Sweden is lacking in that department.

I thought you meant Erik Gustafsson, the d, thats why i listed dmans. You should have understood that.

Also Sandin is not bad. Ekholm might be old but is still a great player.

No need to talk about Liljegren right now.

There is no crisis on RD with:

Dahlin
Karlsson
Andersson
Larsson

Yes, Ekholm is making Bouchard better. More than many. Of "older" players we have Hedman and Markström. I wonder if Sallam dare to play Backlund and Ekholm as well. I definitely believe our best "peak" defenders, Forsling, Brodin, Lindholm get to play with our offensive dynamos Dahlin and Karlsson. Hedman will play against other teams top players but not with Ekholm. I JUST wonder if Hedman will be chosen for a RD position if Hampus Lindholm is injury free. Also belive Hedman will work well with Adam Larsson and Rasmus Andersson. With Larsson he might have a more offensive role but with Andersson a more defensive.

And Rasmus Sandin is probably used very wisely with John Carlsson.

Tomorrow we will know all that was wrong with our speculations!

EP heating up

And if only Elias Lindholm could do the same...

Brodin is out with a LBI, rumoured to be a bad back(which has never been a problem before). He has been his usual peerless self this year, but if he is injured than Sweden will have to go elsewhere. JEE started out the year really well, then missed a few games because of a leg injury. Is back now, but not playing well. I think he is playing hurt. Unless he heals up, Sweden might do better to look for replacements for both these players.
