Mika is a slow starter

Mika is a slow player who has regressed dramatically and racks up points because he’s the worst player on a top power play in the league. He should be a bottom 6 wing for Sweden.

He has had plenty of fast starts. Started with 8 points in 4 games in 22-23. 8 points through his first 2 games in 19-20. He is a point per game player over the first 5 games of the season across his NHL career.

Raymond on the top line??

Forsberg - Pettersson - Nylander
Bratt - Zibanejad - Kempe
Lindholm - Eriksson Ek - Karlsson
Nyqvist - Carlsson - Zetterlund
Burakovsky

Hedman - Karlsson
Forsling - Dahlin
Brodin - Andersson
Ekholm

Ullmark
Markstrom

But on D there’s tough battle for the slots. Lindholm could easily be in there as well.

We really missed out in 2018. Our team in Olympics with Nhlers in 2018 would be far stronger than todays team.

Landeskog - Bäckström - Nylander
Sedin - Sedin - Forsberg
Arvidsson - Karlsson - Rakell
Steen - Zetterberg - Zibanejad

Hedman - Ekholm
Oel - Karlsson
Lindholm - Klingberg

Lundqvist
Markström

I think Backlund might make it as a veteran 4c. He is wearing the c in Calgary, which is huge.
He is definately a candidate. I'd probably have EP40, Zibby, William Karlsson, Eriksson-Ek and Lindholm ahead of him at the center depth chart. But Eriksson-Ek and Lindholm can move to the wing. I also really want Leo Carlsson on the team, but I see him as the perfect 13th forward there to absorb as much knowledge and experience as possible to be ready for a top-6 role in the Olympics

Pettersson is a shadow of his former self. Raymond ahead of Carlsson in my opinion. Dahlin makes too many mistakes defensively, this is a best on best tournament, can’t have him fumbling the puck every now and then.

Not having Landeskog is the biggest setback.

Peter Forsberg was on TSN talking about this tournament and Sweden's chances. He thinks that Canada and USA are the favourites but anyone can win, a bit concerned about Sweden's size and scoring up front. Thinks that they need Karlsson but also need to have him avoid costly defensive issues. I didn't catch why Forsberg happened to be in TSN's studio but he is an engaging speaker, especially for a hockey great.

Hopefully Pettersson keeps working himself up to form, because there is literally no way in hell we are competetive without him. We have zero other candidates to are even close to being a serious 1c in a tournament like this. Zibanejad and Lindholm are overrated, William Karlsson should absolutely play top3 C. To me it seems suboptimal to play Forsberg and Nylander on the same line, we don't have enough offensive upside to just mindlessly put lines together. Would make more sense to me to play Raymond on a line with either of them. Bratt and Kempe always seems to outperform my perception of them, both will be very important.

Has anyone stayed up for Leo Carlssons games this year?

Very split on Erik Karlsson. One one hand, we need potential offensive upside, and I don't think he is as bad overall as some like to make him to be, he's just polarizing as always. On the other, it seems like a recipe for disaster to put him against the stacked offences that we will play this event. Probably worth the gamble though.

A long way to go, but Filip Gustavsson seems to be making his case for the starting role right now.

Here's my roster:

FORWARDS

Filip Forsberg - Elias Pettersson - William Nylander

The top three scorers on the team all together. This line will be depended on to keep the team in the game against higher scoring teams like Canada and the US.

Jesper Bratt - Mika Zibanejad - Gustav Nyquist
The secondary scoring line with a good combination of speed, skill, and two-way play.

Adrian Kempe - Joel Eriksson Ek - Lucas Raymond
Here is your shut-down line that will be tasked with matching up against other teams' superstars.

Leo Carlsson - Elias Lindholm - Rickard Rakell
Three two-way players who can score. I wouldn't expect the 4th line on any Team Sweden configuration to get much ice time though.

William Karlsson
Feel free to switch him and Lindholm if you prefer. I'd expect him to get into the lineup at some point given is overall usefulness.

DEFENSE

Victor Hedman - Erik Karlsson

Two workhorses. Sweden needs Karlsson to help the offense to keep up with other top teams, and Hedman should be able to play the steady shut-down partner for him.

Rasmus Dahlin - Rasmus Andersson
How can you not have a Rasmus pairing? In any case, I could see them working well together as the pair that gets the most offensive zone starts.

Mattias Ekholm - Gustav Forsling
The shutdown pair. You could spead them with the second pair if you prefer a more balanced grouping though.

Jonas Brodin
He's not on the team mostly because he's a lefty and I have Hedman, Dahlin and Ekholm ahead of him. But if one of the lefties moves to the right, you put put him on the team ahead of Andersson or Forsling.

GOAL
Jacob Markström
Linus Ullmark
Filip Gustavsson

Woof! Of the three Gustavsson has been playing the best this season, but I went with overall track record here. That's why Ersson isn't here even though he has outplayed Ullmark this season. Everyone talks about how bad Canada's goaltending options are, but I wouldn't be surprised if Sweden actually has the worst in the tournament. I think that top line is going to have to play out of their minds if Sweden is going to have a chance.
