Every year I"m always asking these stat nerds to use their expected stats and give me some predictions about who some potential breakout players could be.

They never do. The stats have zero predictive ability because they're garbage. Using them to fluff up players who everybody already knows are some of the best in the league is useless.

The main usage of those stats (atleast on this board) is to attempt to artificially elevate players beyond what they actually are. Really encouraging that less and less posters are falling for this bullshit nowadays.
Don’t the Leafs usually win the stat categories in the playoffs? Expected goals should have X number but every game they score 1 or 2. Only stat that matters in hockey is the scoreboard.

I remember he knocked Sundin when he was traded here. Called out the French players and Europeans for wearing visors. The guy should have been riding to the arena in a horse and buggy, he was the most controversial, "love or hate him" man involved in hockey.

That said, he has some good tidbits about hockey no doubt, he coached one of the greatest players in history and he wasn't shy about his opinions, believing in free speech.

I always felt he was excessively overrated though but I allowed him latitude because of his support for the military. I had to grudgingly respect him for his support of soldiers. I also believe that Ron threw him under the bus when in the past Cherry stood up for Ron in a response to CBC or Molson (I forget now), that "if he goes (Ron), I go (Cherry)". With pressure from Molson, they capitulated and Ron stayed. He also loves Canada as witnessed by his defense of the Canadian Juniors after they were goaded into a fight against the Russians which cost them a shot at the gold medal.

I'm not my brothers keeper. He has his controversies and also moments of patriotism one can't ignore.

In a poll by CBC I believe, he was ranked 7th greatest Canadian of all time. Imagine that. A sports commentator the 7th greatest Canadian ever? I mean, wow. That wasn't exactly a vote of confidence on our inventors, visionaries and civil right fighters (where they exists at all)...
I will always appreciate the contempt he showed for Ron Wilson when he was here. Also that he defended Wellwood against Pat Quinn

Even with team play, small samples are iffy.

Stepping it down to players gets more complicated as you have to look at quality of teammates/opposition, zone starts, etc. but is it really a shock that Matthews, Marner and Knies are at the top of the xGF% for the Leafs and Dewar, Reaves and Holberg are at the bottom? Looks pretty accurate.
Small samples are always iffy, that applies to this example of yours also.

USA are already up 1-0 heading into the final. Binnington is guaranteed to allow at least one softie. Not even his fault really, he is who he is at this point. It's mind boggling that is Cooper's guy.
Don't be like that, think positive. Binnington is a quality NHL goalie, it's just one game and any NHL goalie is capable of playing lights out for just one night.

Go Canada Go!

Bob Probert scored 29 for the Wings in 1987-88, does that make him a good offensive player? Cirelli doesn't belong on this team and Marner was saddled with him this game.
Point still remains he has 20 goals, four more than Mitch… anyway he is on pace for 30 plus and is having a good year. As someone else mentioned are you insinuating Mitch can only get 75 assists if his line mates are 60 goal scorers?

Not nice sportsnet, I turn on the tube and see a game is on, at 1st I think what the heck then quickly realize oh a rerun. Lol

I don't know if you remember 2002. Joseph was Quinns guy but even he realized he wasnt cutting it. He let some bad goals and just wast consistent. Quinn then later switched to Brodeur and that's all she wrote

Canada is going to win this series not because of Binny, but because I can see McDavid having the game of his life. Connor playing 23-25 mins guarantees you a win. He's that good

By the the time game 6 hit Stanly Cup he was already overused, that's not the case here. He should play 23 mins

Pretty strange on the last goal Reinhart tries to just shovel it into the Finnish zone. Crosby is like f that knocks it down and shoots into the net. Amazing Sid.

Let's laugh if he shuts down for the rest of the season after this Thursday..

I fully expect a 2 week rest and recovery at a minimum once he returns to the Leafs at some point in the next little while. It was almost predestined that the 4 Nations would come at the expense of the Leafs somehow with Matthews continuing to struggle with injuries.
