I fully expect a 2 week rest and recovery at a minimum once he returns to the Leafs at some point in the next little while. It was almost predestined that the 4 Nations would come at the expense of the Leafs somehow with Matthews continuing to struggle with injuries.
He didn’t get injured here, hasn’t done much but as many have stated, whatever his injury is, playing doesn’t worsen it. Or were we lied to?

I seem to recall he took a spill in the Finland game and someone came close to skating on his arm but I don't know if he was hurt in this tournament other than maybe not being fully healthy for the entire season. There's no transparency here so I wouldn't sweat the details other than he'll probably be missing more time and play poorly on the Leafs tab once this circus is wrapped up.

What a guy.

It’s probably been the best week of hockey this season. I’m entertained glad to have it. I could watch these teams all season long

I don't mind the tournament, some great hockey so far.

I'm just very annoyed that our franchise player is showing NBA levels of high maintenance, and the price for his pedestrian tournament will come at the expense of the Leafs chance for contention.

Groundwork has already laid for why he won't be available when we need him the most, why he won't be full strength when he is available, and why he'll be as uninspired and under-deliver once again.

well we can just use this as a baked in excuse why the leafs failed in the playoffs again. and run it back next year!

I think Mar 7 is the TDL this year... less than a month to go. I know exactly what I am doing if I am GM; I wonder what Tre is gonna do....

I would prefer to do nothing, or if we had to do something, swap some futures for younger players who can be part of the next wave. Kind of like Tampa's Hagel add, but it's a guy who can help the Matthew Knies generation.

  • The one thing that this tourney has given us is an understanding why the Leafs don't do well in the playoff. Our supposed top two have been anonymous here just like the playoffs. And, I don't care that Marner won against Sweden. That was 3 on 3 and that don't happen in the playoffs. He's already been demoted to the 3rd line. Matthews continues to prove how much he isn't worth $16 million. Believe what you want about him being injured. Making him captain is the biggest joke since John Scott. Hopefully, this will be the last year of Shanahan and Pelley and the rest of those non talents.
