An entertaining, mildly disappointing but meaningless game. On to the next one

I thought it was really passionate and excellent hockey. Perhaps meaningless in the sense that it doesn't get us closer to the cup, but the tournament is actually doing an amazing job at highlighting the limitations of our big 3 players.

Like could there be a better load test?

So the question is what do we do? We have at least 3 more years after this one doing this stuff.

Well those were two Stanley cup level teams on steroids last night so fortunately we don't have to prepare for that.

Matthews was good at position. It was actually a solid game for him less the goal scoring, so I think he will be good in a deep run ((Think he is still hurt)).

Nylander is having moments where he looks good and others where he is lost. When the Finns bogged him down as the Canadians, he almost gives up. He can be dangerous though but among true peers he struggles to elevate so probably have to use him with with Matthews or match ups.

Marner given a slower tempo and less physicality was excellent. Give him time and space and he was making some beauty passes. When it got intense, he is watching. It's like the Toronto powerplay. I feel MLSE has made the Leafs too slow of a team and the players have been moving at a slow tempo which became their comfort zone.

Ultimately. I think the Leafs need to add speed and urgency to their game. They need supplemental speed and for that Marner and JT both should be moved on from.

Agreed on all fronts. Only problem for us is we are absolutely going to re-sign Marner and Tavares.

Oh what could've been back in 2017.

You're shrugging this off way too casually, we need to revamp hockey in this country from the ground up. Even a fetus can begin to learn the game through UV stimulation.

Marchand, Stone and Crosby can't keep up with the young bucks.

I'd move them down into the bottom 6 and still use Sid on the PP.

I though Celebrini and/or Bedard should have been selected. Not ust to usher in a new era, but based on their talent.

Canada wants to pigeon-hole everyone into a role, whereas all these guys are so good you have a star player like Scheifele playing on the fourth line.

At the time I thought Marchand, Cirelli and Bennett should not have made the team. Stone looks like an odd one too now. The kids wouldn't have provided anything less in my opinion.

I think goaltending will be better next year. This year we didn't really know what we had so went with the obvious choices. Blackwood, Thompson and even Kuemper could be in the mix after having good seasons. Not the superstar in net we're used to but they are all guys who can make the saves you need them to. I doubt Marchand is back next year as well but that could be said about a few guys. Entire bottom 6 could be replaceable at this point tbh unless they have some big games on Monday and then the Championship game if Canada makes it.
We could have chose those 3 goalies but let’s remember Kuemper was ok in his run. Thompson doesn’t have big experience. He was hurt in Vegas cup run. Blackwood until this year hasn’t been this good. I don’t think it matters who we take there would be question marks with any goalie. 4 out of the bottom 6 had some pretty good chances probably more than the top 6. Bennett play a very good game had a couple of good chances. The Tampa line was fine. Canadas issue we have no size up front. We have guys with a lot of heart but that can’t make up 20 lbs and 4 inches.

Tkachuk likely wont dress next game but will he play on Thursday? He’s the heart, soul and leader of the team so it’ll big loss if he can’t play.

You can't dismiss how a that game being tied changes the flow of play. The Americans would have to push more, open things up as the game progresses which gives our guys more chances. With the game tied, the US can lock it down and wait for the next questionnable goal against.

Game changer, as it were.

If Price was in net, 1 might have been enough... it has been in the past. But alas, that is no longer our reality.
I said before the game that I liked the US depth and felt they were more apt to score because of the difference in goaltending.

Does no concern mean he’ll rest it until they know who they play in the final? If it’s not Canada I don’t think he’ll play.

Matthews actually looks like he's fully bought in with USA's strict defense hard forechecking type of system.

The USA also have a better D core, especially with Makar and Theo out and Doughty not at 100% and not 5 years younger. After 97, 29, and 8, the Americans have most of the talent.

Leaving Marner with McDavid was a mistake IMO. From the game against Sweden - it was abundantly clear that their games are too different to mesh.

Cooper is sort of botching the lineup decisions, the amount of flexibility in the lineup is absurd and he's not utilizing it at all.

they moved him off the line for the most part when they needed a goal. Marner has the ability to make a play so I can see why they’d keep him there. Last night, we knew three seconds in that Marner wasnt going to be able to compete, but he wasn’t alone.
