The hive is at it again, blowing molehills into mountains.

Torts has shuffled lines over the first four games, and probably will over the next sixteen games or so.
He's evaluating players, deciding which prospects need more seasoning, which veterans are useful depth.

I wouldn't read too much into any line combinations right now.

Allison is a fixture, Laczynski and MacEwen are bubble players.
I haven't been that impressed by Laczynski so I'm not losing sleep over MacEwen getting a few games.

The point is Torts is full of shit. His whole accountability motto is great on paper, fantastic actually.

But the majority of us here saw right through it, Accountability will only apply to a select few, and that makes Torts a bold faced liar.
“Waaaaaah! A player I like is being punished & a player I hate isn’t!”

“Big meanie coach isn’t fair!”

This board sounds like a bunch of hypersensitive kindergartners.

You felate yourself to how good of a coach Tortorella is and gush over all of the statements he makes and when shown an example of how it’s all bullshit this is how you react.

Is increasing a players ice time after taking two awful penalties when just called up from the something that you would consider accountability?

This has nothing to do with any “favorite” players and everything to do with Tortorella being a crock of shit.

Macewen on the 2nd line is great to me! How can we ignore the fact that he scored so many goals last year in 75 games? He surely should have been placed on line 2 from the opening of camp! What a star in the making!

This is a rebuilding year, so Torts is looking at different combinations and roles for players.

I don't think MacEwen playing on the 2nd line means anything more than Torts wants to see if a mucker is a good fit with JVR and N Cates. He might play MacEwen with Frost in Nashville, move him to 4RW or send him back to LHV in a few games.

One thing Torts may be doing with some moves is to try to break young players from the "I'm just happy to be here" mindset - that is, to stay here you'd better play every shift with your hair on fire, especially on the 4th line.

Toughness matters for Torts, but not fighting, more the fact that when Sandsrom was being hacked after the whistle, there was an instant scrum - the mindset of protecting your teammate - once that is established, you won't see fights b/c other teams know not to take liberties. That has been lacking for a while.

The other side is winning battles for the puck all over the ice, the Flyers are faster, but not fast and skilled enough to win track meets - but they've shown the ability to forecheck, separate the puck, win battles behind the opposing net and create scoring opportunities. They're still struggling to do that in their D-zone and stop the cycle.

You want a rebuild? You think the way to rebuild is to play a bunch of 3rd tier prospects together and let them sink?
The better prospects who are NHL ready are getting plenty of minutes.
The others are getting cameos before they return to LHV.

Of course this team is struggling, they have two top six forwards out, they're learning a new scheme, and lines are being juggled every night. You expected them to come out of the gate and have instant success?

It's good they've kept games close, but I couldn't think of a worse road trip to start the season than the current one, and they're not being blown out - a good sign in terms of mental toughness. Outplayed, but they haven't rolled over and played dead.

Is Tanner Laczynski getting plenty of minutes? Is Wade Allison getting plenty of minutes? Is Morgan Frost getting plenty of minutes?

TOI at 5x5 after 4 games:
JVR (54:04), Hayes (51:31), Farabee (49:52), N Cates (49:13), Allison (48:52), TK (48:39), Laughton (44:49), Frost (44:37)
Lazcynski (37:37), J Cates (24:55, 3g) Deslauriers (28:27)

PP: TDA, JVR, Hayes, TK, Farabee, Laughton [Allison, Frost, N Cates, Provorov]
PK: Farabee, N Cates, Laughton, TK, Sanheim, Provorov, TDA, Braun

I'd say N Cates, Allison and Frost are getting plenty of minutes, TK has a bigger role.
Note that Farabee is much young than any of the "rookies" at 22.

Laczynski has gotten more minutes than the other 4th liners, but he's been "meh."
Maybe he's just a bigger, slightly faster version of Marody, who had as good of a college career and better AHL career.

They are so close to admitting the team isn't a meritocracy, but they know if they answer the very straight forward questions their ruse is up.

Better to hand wave and obfuscate replies, while never directly answering the question.

ummm you forgot to add hakstool n AV in front of Torts name in that first sentence..

just sayin..

i see a trend...🤣

Find me one team in the NHL who has a player like MacEwen playing on the 2nd line with that many 5v5 minutes. I'll wait.

It's possible... it's also possible he's only played 10 games, and we don't have an appropriate look at him just yet.

I have been busy the last 2 weeks, haven't watched a minute of Flyers hockey, haven't read about them, haven't browsed this board, haven't looked at the stats.

Could anybody give me the shortest of run-downs how we got to a 3-1 record? Have they looked any good or just pure luck (timely goals, etc.)? Just trying to figure out whether this start is a mirage or whether they maybe are better than we all expected.
Hart, Konecny, the prospects, and Ristolainen contributed in the best ways they could.

Sandstrom was interesting to watch, gave up two bad goals, had bad form, doesn't seem to anticipate well, but also showed the athleticism that allowed him to make some great saves.

Don't think you can risk putting him on waivers, his game needs a lot of work but the potential is obvious.
The time lost to injury has slowed his development but a backup role is perfect for him right now.

Problem is next year - if Ersson shines in LHV, you have to make a tough decision, which goalie do you trade?

MacEwen is worse than the rookies. Is playing bad players more than better players usually a sign of knowing what you're doing?
Mac probably played his best game as a Flyer yesterday. He was better than the kids. I don’t expect it to continue but a good coach takes advantage of that like Torts did.

Like Deslauriers fight changed the outcome of the game in Tampa the non goal of Koneckny which was offside impacted the outcome of this one. Play was sloppy as expected in a back to back. It’s called hockey. It’s how it goes.

Hard work can trump talent. Not every game but many.

What did his analytics look like? That's what you need to throw at Charlie to show him as a liar.
He has a meltdown if people use analytics now. Like how he bitches about Andy and Rono and accuses them of not understanding the stats they post, meanwhile he uses them dishonestly regularly.

MacEwen had a 32.70 xGF% (-7.66 rel) by the way.

Frost 47.29 (+12.03 rel)
Laczynski 45.72 (+9.60 rel)
