In some ways I feel like putting him with the star players is hurting him a bit in that Panarin/Strom and Kreider/Zibanejad are always looking for each other and Lafreniere has to try to figure out where to go and how to be effective rather than just playing his game. He's having to adjust his play to theirs.
In the long run that may not be a bad thing, but tougher going in the short run rather than sticking him on a line to "be the man" and force feeding him minutes

To me it looks like Lafreniere is struggling a bit that could be a combination of getting used to the NHL AND getting used to his linemates. Nothing wrong or unusual with either but building up a bit further on your point - it again shows that it’s not always to a prospect benefit to play with the team’s best players or against top competition while getting top assignments. Don’t know if all people would get it but this is a type of cheating the natural development that could work both ways - and just as well potentially slow down the development as speed it up.

Listen as he did multiple times last year buchy probably lost the game on his multiple grade A scoring chances that he blew and I love the kid. But this is par for the course for him

strome is garbage always has been but he along with kreider are notoriously slow starters. Which is why I knew they’d suck in the play in series and why I’m not surprised to see them sucking now. Both will get better but strome even at his best is trash.

it’s Quinn’s fault for playing him ahead of Chytil at this point. Stupidity but this is the same coach playing Johnson over Smith so you know he’s not bright

I’m amazed we lost. The penguins goals could not have been luckier. Lindgren literally threw one puck in his own net. Shesterkin must be livid.

two games that should have 100% been wins. This season will get real very quickly can’t afford to fall much further behind

It will all balance out. There will be games the Rangers will win where they would be outplayed and Buchnevich will get some lucky goals to compensate for last night’s bad luck.

I f***ing hate Ryan Strome and Jack Johnson so much and I f***ing hate David Quinn for being an obstinate asshole. He's going to ruin Lafreniere.

That Adam Herman tweet says it all. 0-4 when TDA and Johnson are on the ice. 7-1 when they're not. If you continue to play Jack Johnson, you're f***ing delusional or crooked, but either way, you deserve to be fired.

If you believe a coach can ruin a supposed generational player, you're nuts.

I'm scared of this as well, but I'm reserving judgment until I see them under a new coach in a new system.

I could have sworn that those two had their best seasons with Quinn, but when it's time to go after the current whipping boy, facts cease to matter.

Quinn ruined Buch’s development.

Quinn is ruining Chytil’s development.

There are others too but am I getting it right?

We truly managed to snatch defeat from the claws of victory here.
Positives: PDG had another great game, Chytil is asserting himself more in games played very physical tonight, K'andre looks more comfortable with every shift.
Negatives: Tony D having to skate around both his man and Jack Johnson multiple times sums up that pairing, Laf being strapped to the bench, Panarin looks like he's struggling with conditioning.

I think we honestly gotta try to play our best players in their natural positions and distribute ice time more evenly, keep the 4 left wingers on the left and work around them, even put Strome out to RW and move Chytil/Howden up if you have to. Smith has to come back in for Johnson.

Let's say you are right about Panarin and his conditioning. He still managed to create chances for his Linemates. They just couldn't bury them. Panarin is a beast.

Sick of howden doing nothing game after game
Really? That is what you took away from this game?
First of all, Howden is the 4c. He played a solid game.
What you should be concerned about is Zibanejad looking like they got a hold of some qualudes. Maybe Kreider not being able to shoot the puck in the ocean.

Panarin terrible? I’d definitely put him and Buchnevich in at least good category. Breadman is not in his last year’s mid-season form [when he was the best Rangers forward or even player) but he’s close.
Panarin was absolutely brutal yesterday. Truthfully might have been his worst game as a Rangers, or top 3.

Positives. Chytil, Kakko moving all night. Kakko looking quicker. Still not the fastest player obviously but he had a motor tonight. PDG really did some yeoman's work on that line too.
K'Andre Miller... You would have to be blind not to see how good he's been. I would say our best player over 4 games.

That would be Adam Fox.
KM had his best game last night, not doubt, but he isn't nearly at Fox's level yet. Why would anyone expect him to be?

It's been obvious that the game looks a bit fast for Laf right now. He has always been a playmaker, but the lanes he is used to seeing just aren't there. He's forcing it a bit. Totally understandable for a top pick playing in the biggest market at 19 years old. He is too good of a player, both physically and mentally for him not to be a great player. This isn't Nial Yakupov.

He just needs a breakthrough and it is only going to come with time. He's been with the team a month, we should drop the word "Ruined" because he didn't Auston Matthews 4 goals out of the gate.

BTW, The contrast of the final two shots of the shootout was painful to watch. Letang's goal was so beautiful (seriously as good as it gets - quick deke high backhand) and then Tony basically skated into the goalie and didn't really get a shot off.

I'm not a fan of our offense when Panarin and Mika are on at the same time. We can have two PP units that are more effective collectively than this burn out method.d
